They wanted to wait until they were back in a more controlled environment-the Vab even though they had scaffolding in place the next day after the TSM leak. I saw Lh2 up there bright and squirly this am.

 

And why getting one working on the moon is a critical first step since both locations suffer a similar lack of protection. Surface installations look nice in simulations but aren’t realistic when you consider the need to get under cover.

 

Sounds like they're going to need a Fastenal on the Moon to provide them with fasteners and parts when it breaks down.

 

Need to get some welders astronaut rated. Or some weld engineers up in vacuum labs creating the science for it. Or some alternative fabrication capability, that is if we’re serious about doing anything beyond hanging around in glorified RV’s.

 

I read a story where the vacuum welding was actually a sealed chamber like a sandblasting box and you just pumped the chamber full of the shield gas and went to town.

 

I expect there will be practical difficulties not the least being the cumbersome state of current suit design. Remote drones might solve that one in particular but create new problems to solve.
