I decided on the TRD Sport over the OR. Based on what I read online, the sport fits my use-case better than the OR. Here are the bullet points based on what I found (Feel free to correct me, anyone)

-The suspension is slightly different for the sport, and is supposed to make it a bit better suited for driving on the road.
-The wheels for the sport are slightly bigger than on the OR, and the stock tires make for a slightly quieter drive on the road when compared to the offroad.
-I think there are slight differences in the towing capacity between the Sport and the OR (I'm really not certain if this one is even true, feel free to chime in if thats totally BS)
-The aesthetics are different. Mainly the Sport has the hood scoop and color matching fenders.

I don't plan on off-roading too much, and will be towing a utility trailer every now and again. It also seemed to me that there were more double-cab long beds offered for the Sport than the OR, which was a requirement for me. I also am a big fan of the aesthetics of the Sport, so that was another reason to go for it.

I was looking at them too before the Toyota arrived. Just do some searching on the Diesel engine they use and you will not buy one. Problems ect. Turned me off. Plus when you see a Toyota next to a zr2 the Toyota is just a better looking truck IMO. It will be worth the wait.

I put 500.00 down on March 24. Salesman made it sound like I got lucky with a build date 5-20 and delivery on 6-20? Got everything I wanted except LED lights. I ordered a TRD, OR, auto,4 door army green

Does anyone have any factual confirmation, that manual transmissions are discontinued for the rest of 2022 production?

I have an ‘allocation order’ wt a dlr, but if this proves to be the case, I will explore other options.

No. I don't think anyone has seen any factual information. Seems to be M/T purists decrying the long, slow death of the M/T and jumping to conclusions as Toyota doesn't produce large volumes of M/T Tacomas...because the VAST majority of Tacomas sold are the A/T variety. Add in supply chain woes, and overall decreased production output, and "Toyota must be killing off the M/T." But that's just my $0.02. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Brother, this is an internet forum....we don't deal in facts. Tune in here for speculation. I notice that in my region you can still "build & price" a manual on Toyota's website. I am waiting for an M/T so I keep a candle lit that they will continue to build them.

Agreed. The dealer I'm purchasing from has 3 MTs allocated currently. While I was searching for the exact trim and lack of options that I wanted a couple of weeks back, I easily found 10+ MTs allocated in my local region. I think all of this is FUD for the most part. Long term, sure, MTs will likely be killed off due to fuel efficiency requirements, but current allocations don't seem to indicate it's coming right away.

As far as I know, there hasn't been any announcement regarding the demise of the M/T in the current gen Tacoma. While I wouldn't be surprised if it was eliminated in future gens, I remain cautiously optimistic that Toyota will continue to offer the row-your-own into the future. I do believe part of the outcry is due to the existence of this site. A lot of the M/T Death Prophets utilize the build spreadsheets and other web research in the numbers of manuals vs autos being built, and belong to the M/T enthusiast threads, full of M/T drivers. I think the perception is that there were/are a lot more manual Tacomas being built than there actually are. As a large majority of Tacomas are automatic, and a I would fathom an extremely large majority of Tacoma owners have no idea this website exists.

Of course, I haven't looked at any of the real numbers, so I could just be spouting absolute bullshit.

Any way you slice it, I sure am glad I secured my 6MT truck, because the future of the stick shift is scary.

    I certainly appreciate your responses, personally I can’t wait to get a ‘22 6MT.

While I put a depo in for a spare sly equipped Sport, there is a pearl well-equipped sport nearby & available at another dlr. $5k more than my order, wt a bunch of shit I don’t need or want.
    Still tempting me though, hahaha

No, they will continue MT at least until the 4th gen Tacoma- which at best we see in 2024, I’m guessing 2025/2026 personally.

I initially had my truck spec'd out as an OffRoad in lunar rock, plus all the options. I was initially hung up on the Lunar Rock, but my only true dealbreaker was a 6MT. I jumped at the MGM Pro when it became available and I'm glad I did. I paid 4k more than my OR was going to be, but the waiting game was over. It all depends on what is acceptable to you. I already wanted alllllll the options, so it was an easy jump for me.

All your points are correct if you are getting 4wd sport. If doing offroad you'd probably just want to remove the front scoop.

I do love the (fake) scoop though. I might try to find a sport hood for my offroad.

There’s an army green trd or available at Thousand Oaks Toyota. Future allocation with no reservation.

Sort of... I found a few lunar rock or army green offroads with double cab 6ft bed, and all were sold or on dealer hold. Confirms my decision to buy one 4 states away.

    Not talking pro obviously.
