Hello everyone i'm new to this. I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 off-road that has a 6' lift, I just got from a Chevy dealer. There is no factory warranty on vehicle. Anyways I test drove ran really good so i took home. After a couple of weeks i started hearing a grinding noise when i accelerated and deaccelerated. I have read all other forums and haven't came across one that has this problem with out a fix. i've had over a month now and it's getting worse i am a mechanic by trade so i went through the usual thing like checking bearing on wheels also checked drive line i even installed a spacer which made it worse. i got that woods drive line and still no fix. I'm pretty sure its in the rear differential but before i go ripping apart this 2021 toyota does anyone have any other suggestions. oh it also has 25,000 miles on it.

    Oh look, another mod....
A 2021 w/25k miles still has a factory warranty for the drivetrain. Take it to a Toyota dealership to investigate the noise.

i tried doing that but they said since it has the lift on it that it isn't covered. also the bigger tires, they said it messes with the bearing i told them they were full of caca. i might just take truck in so they can diagnose it. i woud hate to open up pumpkin but i will.

Would suggest drain and refill of the rear diff fluid if you haven't done so already (so you can see what might be stuck on the magnet drain plug)

I already did that and the magnet was gone. I i drained and it was a dark red color i put synthetic in a little heavier and ran no change. there was no metal when i drained fluid.

not good. You won't even be able to put the truck back to stock or smaller lift kit because the front subframe is cut out of the truck.

At this point instead of throwing money at it, I would take it to a driveline shop and have them diagnose it.

Dealer logic... larger tires so warranty isn't covered... with larger tires, the diff spins slower so it actual has less mileage as a result. And unless you are running 40's or something monstrous then the stress on the ring and pinion is negligible.

I would try a different dealer. And if that doesn't get you anywhere, then to a reputable differential specialist.

Edit: Just read the mechanic part... pick up a used third member and throw it in... probably the cheapest route.

Not many dealers are going to want to touch a truck with driveline issue and a 6 inch lift.

Driveline specialist means someone who specializes in transmissions, rear ends, driveshafts etc.

The funny thing about that is, there are dealers that are installing these 6" kits and then sell them. So I wonder what happens in those cases... maybe this is one of those trucks...

Out of all of the searching I have done for a new tacoma, I have never seen one at a Toyota dealer with a 6 inch lift. Sure it does happen but its not common at all.

To me someone bought the truck. Did the lift and discovered the issue and traded it into a chevy dealer. Hence why the rear diff fluid looked nice and red.

A 6 foot lift sounds insane. How do you get inside it?
