Having bike envy right now; Coworker and I swapped bikes for the ride back from lunch.

His Triumph Bonneville T100 sounds SO GOOD esp in the underpasses, but is def a cruiser bike. Felt like a sufficiently powered lazyboy compared to my 390 Duke.

    exactly

The other 'wheel in a hitch' approach leaves the drive train at risk. This is trying to do away with that.

Heard a thumper outside my house and thought someone stole my bike. My neighbor traded his older Suzuki Boulevard M109R straight up for a 2022 KLR 650 adventure. I gotta admit, it was much bigger looking than I expected. It seemed like a really great starting point, loved the already setup accessory ports and all that.

Appears that drive train risk was simply traded for fork risk (as the triple-tree and forks were not designed to take a big pothole from that angle.)

I'd use it for a short drive to get the bike to shop.

Yup, that's risk, as I understand it. The risk of engaging the drive train.

That's a good observation. Is that a legit concern though? The front end is designed to take the weight of the bike/rider/luggage - so 800#'s?? - and withstand constant varying force for thousands of hours.
In this case it has less than the weight of the bike - 300? - riding on the nearly vertical front forks. And when it does hit a hole, it only has that 300 #'s resistance and can bounce freely.

    Thinking out loud here....

Have you ever ridden one? I have a buddy who is a die hard KLR guy. Owns an older one and the new one. I prefer the DR, personally. The KLR is a pig for a little guy like me ha.

True BUT the forks are raked in the opposite direction under normal use. Potholes could theoretically exceed normal use forces. I have no hard data to back up my claim.

The angled rake engages/compresses the front suspension. A trailing angle doesn't facilitate suspension compression therefore more of the impact will be transferred to the front wheel bouncing upwards and applying force on the fork brace, bearing and race. My $0.02

Probably low pressure on smooth roads just don't hit a big pothole at speed.

You're right on the angles. I'm thinking about the contrast in force. So if I'm two up doing 50 MPH on a 500 pound bike and see a pot hole and squeeze the brake - think about all the force moving into the impact - and the front end is engineered for that. Now think about 300#, no braking, and it can bounce freely away from the force. I don't have data either but it seems like its still a lot less.

Another thing I thought of...what if you get a flat?

I have been sick since Monday and haven't felt comfortable riding due to it. Feeling some real FOMO right now seeing my bike parked in the garage every day.

Just installed the Highway Dirt Bikes hand guards with integrated mirrors and a dash kit--very high quality product. My old Doubletake mirrors would need constant adjustment while riding.

The tow method you have pictured can create forces similar to riding a wheelie then hard rear braking. over and over again.

It'll probably work for many miles but I'm not a fan.

Yeah I was definitely taken back, when I saw them originally I assumed it would be the size of my drz400, maybe a touch bigger, but no that fuckers BIG.

Weird, my doubletakes on the F800 have been great. The Acerbis are open guards, didn't want to drill the weights out in the Navi's bars and they were only like $32. That's shits and giggles price-worthy.
