    2005,6speed,2wd, with vaccumm booster.
So After having the truck for 4 years I decided to order new shoes and hardware out of the blue.
Was braking fine before but if it aint broke fix it till it brakes right?
So the wheel cylinders looked original and in need of replacement but were working fine and no signs of leaking. I replace shoes and hardware and everything seems to be in order but now the first half of the brake pedal feels like airs in it and doesn't brake much at all, then the second half of the pedal gets real stiff and brakes but much more poorly than preinstall.
I just bleed the rears and didn't notice any air in them after bleeding.
    Didn't fix problem.
There is a hiss happening now to when depressing the brake pedal.
From underneath it sounds like its coming from around the engine/transmission area and when you pop the hood you can here it too.
My buddy says its my brake booster.
    Fuck.
Was that just bad luck or could I have fudged the booster while doing the rear brakes (didn't do anything to the lines/fluid at the time).

Any thoughts would be appreciated from you fine TW chaps.

Did you adjust the star to get the shoe drag set properly?

Did the hiss start before or after bleeding the brakes?

    Does the parking brake set?

If the adjustment that Jimmy posted doesn't help you may have to go back in and check everything. Make sure the parking brake strut is situated correctly, and the adjustment bits are working

They were originally called pads but changed to the term shoes due to the fix to extend the brake service life

i refer to them as antiques, a 40k truck still in the stone ages with braking technology.

Hard to say from behind a screen but the hissing during pedal application does sound like it could be the booster or a loose vacume line. An air bound master cylinder would also do this but you don't mention doing anything to the master. Again not an easy diagnosis from behind a screen

Does the engine idle rough when the brakes are depressed and the hissing sound happens?

    All fixed.
Took the drums back off and compared them to before I started and I didnt tuck that L hinge into that fork under the big spring.
I couldn't adjust for shit with a screw driver so I did the trick where you go in reverse 3-5mph and rapidly pull then release the ebrake(which is now working again like it should).
    Thanks gents.
