I contacted BFG and for my 2018 Tacoma TRD Off road double cab and with my 275/70R17 tires, they say 35PSI front and rear.

Isn't that the minimum rated load carrying inflation pressure for those tires? It's still like 1000 lbs overkill per tire on a stock weight DCLB. Going lower risks at some point that the air is not carrying the weight enough and the tire carcass/sidewall is, creating excess heat and then the tire life is reduced, can be unsafe or worst case, it fails.

    some information regarding this:

    From this thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bfg-ko2-tire-pressure.509064/

Based on calculations looks like 35psi is spot on.

You are correct; 35 psi is the minimum inflation pressure for LT-metric tires as recommended by the tire mfg/industry standard.
A LT275/70/17 is right at the edge, as our trucks have an inflated load requirement of 1,954 lbs from LT-metric tires.
I personally, feel comfortable calculating down to 30 psi by extrapolating a psi value based on the difference between 35 and 40 psi. In the chart below, we see that difference is 5psi=195lbs or 1psi=39lbs. 2,000lbs@35psi - 39lbs=1,961lbs@34psi. My personal recommendation would be 34 psi for a LT275/70/17.
    Screenshot_2022-04-14-22-04-54.jpg

Let's take a look at a size that is a little 'overkill'; a LT285/75/16. In the chart we see 35psi gives an inflated capacity of 2,130lbs; 176lbs more than the 1,954lbs requirement. The 35-40 psi difference is 210lbs for 5psi, or 42lbs per 1psi. So it has an extrapolated load inflation of 1,962lbs @ 31 psi.
    Screenshot_2022-04-14-21-53-36.jpg

As I said, this is what I personally feel comfortable doing and recommend caution if using the 'extrapolated method'. This is because the charts are non-linear; it won't always have the same value per psi. In the LT285/75/16 chart, we see:
    35-40psi=210lbs or 1psi=42lbs
    40-45psi=200lbs or 1psi=40lbs
    45-50psi=215lbs or 1psi=43lbs
    50-55psi=170lbs or 1psi=34lbs
    ...and so on.

In either example, it is nowhere near the "1,000lbs of overkill per tire" as you alluded to. It would have to be a size that is ridiculously voluminous for that to occur at 35psi; like a LT345/70/16.

275/70/17 Destination AT's I usually air up to 36 PSI cold. I find a comfortable balance in ride when carrying heavier loads with my leer cap and bedslide and bedliner sprayed on by previous owner.

After installing my TRD Pro shocks w/ Eibach front springs and 1.25" tapered rear blocks, I'm considering stepping up from a 265/70/17 to a 275/70/17. I have only had BFG KO2s on my trucks, but am considering Toyo Open Country AT IIIs. Has anyone made this change? Curious how they compare. I will periodically get caught in highly inclement weather being in Colorado, so the three peak rating is important (which they both have). How about looks? Noise comparison? Etc... Any pics of the Toyos would be great on a Cement Taco.

This is the exact setup I'm looking to do. TRD lift kit on a DC OR with TRD 4runner Sema wheels and 275/70s. You running the OEM mud flaps? What tires you running? Anything you'd change in hindsight?

Yup, oem mud flaps. Falken Wildpeak AT3W.

No regrets, perfectly happy with my wheel tire lift setup. I'm not an offroad guy, so I can't comment how it handles on trails or anything, my truck is my daily that I'm still making payments on so the idea of trying to break it offroad doesn't exactly appeal to me lol

I ran BFGs for 35 years and are great tires, not the best in the rain but are great in the sand. I switched to the Toyo AT2s and my Son had the AT2s and upgraded to the AT3s. It is a lot nicer than the AT2s, ride so nice, quiet and the sidewall looks great. I think the new 275s from Toyo are E rated, I can't remember. Toyos are my go to tire!

I have the Toyo Open County AT3 in 275, excellent tires in snow/rain/mud. I would not hesitate to recommend them .

Have any pics to share? I’m considering trying these out. Have always used BFGs over the years.

And here we go… decided to stick with what I’ve had good experience with (KO2). Just installed Konig Countersteer X 17x8 -10 with 275/70/17 BFG KO2. Slight rubbing during reverse turn on mud flap - drivers side only.

I have Billstein 5100’s and 288 springs up front on the 2nd notch (for weights of winch and steel stub bumper). There’s an ad-a-leaf in back. About 1.5” all around with factory 1” rake maintained.
