Thanks for the video. Shifting to 4H below 60mph on a straight away paved road is good. Do it 2-3 times to engage the actuator, got it!

Obviously, to go 4L, I'll have to come to a stop to engage it.

Definitely do not want seizing to occur when I need the 4X4.

Jesus dude, you need to give it a rest. I was a certified flight instructor and when one of the planes went in for maintenance we expected the A&P to do his damn job. Yes we'd do our normal preflight to make sure everything was working as it was supposed to by the checklist but do you think we'd go over the plane once it was out of the mechanics shop? Nope.

I'm not an A&P and rely on them and their knowledge and expertise to do the job right.

Hey guys, thanks for the continued interest. I did send an email earlier today requesting a basic update from the manager over that department. The main reason I joined this forum a few days ago was to hopefully get a wide range of opinions from others about what they would do in my situation. This forum did not disappoint. I appreciate everyone who has taken their time to respond to my dilemma whether I agree with them or not. All of the responses have helped me immensely in formulating my personal path forward.

Taking the advice of several folks here, I am going to try and keep as many communications as possible with the dealer in a written format. I’m keeping it simple in plain language to minimize the chances of any misunderstandings. I waited until today to make my first contact because I was sure that making contact at the first of the week would have been futile. I’m confident that my truck is just one of several in line to be assessed by a senior technician. No one at the dealer could characterize me as a pest or someone who simply doesn’t care with my timing of first contact. Will hopefully be able to provide an update soon as to where they are in the process.

Very wise especially the written piece. Mine was all verbal with my frame, though that was a much more widespread thing and I did take a lot of pictures of the 2 holes I found including using a tape measure and socket to show the sizes just in case.

Good idea, and better if they also reply with written communication, I'm thinking they may be inclined to call you to save time. But who knows.

No response to the email yet but the truck has been moved from its last position in the lot. Appears the oil on the underside has been cleaned up. So at least some progress!

Pretty confident it’s going to be way more involved than that. We’ll just have to see what the inspection shows. Pretty sure the sounds I heard resulted in some type of detectable damage. I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t.

Their legal team will likely advise them to shy away from putting anything in writing. You may have to push for a written response. Hang in there. It is easy to be emotional about this, but you are handling it better than most. No need to get bent out of shape until you see their response. Take care.

    If you think you’re anxious…….
I’m in a good position having an independent knowledgeable mechanic I’ve known for years on standby to sniff out any shenanigans on any “findings” or lack there of.

In reality, if the engine is properly filled with oil and shows no sign of wear in 20k miles, it's fine (actually way less). That being said, the 100k warranty on the drive train would be perfectly acceptable.

Great if you get more than this, but it's not really necessary. Look for smoke and listen for engine knocking sounds..... check a few of the plugs for oil at next oil change.

    Of course, everything in writing.

    Good luck.

Personally I'd send a "firm" email to a service direct right after I'd dropped off the truck, making him aware of the situation and requesting updates and answers ASAP. You don't want to give them an impression that you're not concerned. After all they effed up your brand new truck and you have the right to be upset. You've got to keep them on their toes or they'll drag their feet and try to take advantage of you. Like the saying goes, squeaky wheel gets greased. Good luck.

A way I use to reduce their conversations to writhing, it to follow any conversation of substance with a written message from me that spells out what was discussed and what was determined. If they then disagree with my written representation, they are compelled to correct it. No response is as good as their agreement that I have represented our conversation accurately.

The squeaky wheel may well get greased however the courteous wheel will probably get a better job.

"Firm" and "ASAP" just tick service people off -- these people are well aware that his truck is there and also why, they also know he is rolling up miles and therefore reducing value on the loaner.

I completely disagree with this. If the engine lacked enough lubrication to begin shaking hard. There has to be damage, at a minimum premature wear to the engine. I wouldn’t want my fresh 300k piston rings, pistons, cylinders, bearings, crankshaft, camshafts to wear prematurely.... and that’s exactly what will happen.
