I hear ya.. I had to dip into the Ash that I had stored for next year.. it sucked waking up at 1:30 to feed the woodstove last night, it's been a few weeks since I stopped doing that every night. I was hoping that I was done with until next winter.

MD Taco enthusiasts… I might be moving to your neck of the woods. What do vehicle registration costs look like for you all?

I did some research online. MD seems to have the property tax and annual safety inspections of VA beat by quite a margin lol

MD has no property tax or annual inspection. One time safety inspection when you register truck. Emissions check every two years in most of the state. Plus I think you still have to pay state tax on value of truck one time. Not sure about that but someone will correct me. What part of the state are you moving to?

Registration fees are the "tax" and renewed every 2 years. My last one was about $185 for the newer truck, $135 for an older Prius. Emissions every 2 years also which can be done at a self-serve kiosk (~$20 If I recall) by plugging into your OBD port.

My father had to pay a sales tax on state deemed value of the vehicle when transferring registration from Connecticut. I thought that was because it was a leased vehicle, but maybe it is a thing for any transferred vehicle.

    Another newb. :)

Property tax - a term i've heard only associated with owning a home. I've had to pay tax upon tax up on tax every time i've re-registered my vehicles and I hate it. But, we let our govt do that to us, so there isn't much recourse.

I already paid greater than 6% in sales tax, so I should be mostly exempt from that (minus the $100 fee).

TBD on location. More towards the southern part, was trying to avoid Waldorf, maybe the Upper Marlboro area. Open to suggestions on what is nice/safe.

Is the safety inspection required on any vehicle imported into the state, regardless of the year?

They have self serve emissions kiosks??

It’s pay me now or pay me later. Just hard to stomach paying property tax on a vehicle.

The only thing I’ll give MD (tax wise) is that the vehicle registration supports (or used too) the MD State Police medivacs. Those transported don’t get charged directly (or insurance billed) for the flight like they would for commercial companies.
