First time I went to the range with my grandpa we had a 30-06, an AR in 5.56, and a 12 gauge. It seems strange to me now but I remember the AR actually hurting my shoulder more than the 30-06 did. Maybe it was because I shot it way more or it was the plastic stock combined with me only wearing a thin t-shirt (Florida summer). I loved the 30-06, still do, but now when I go shooting I don’t pay as much attention to the bruises.

I have gone shooting before, but was my first time firing a shotgun; I don't own one (Yet; That will likely be changing soon), so when I went shooting with my friend at Guardian Training Center's indoor range today, I rented a Mossberg 12-gauge, and the pictures below are the result...

shotguns are a lot of fun. My 13 year old likes her .410.

I've fired an auto shotgun and regular shotgun in vegas, but only slugs, never buckshot. You can definitely tell its purpose!

Is that one of those youth-sized shotguns, or is it a full-size weapon? Also, the appeal of a .410 is that has less of a recoil, right?

I fired slugs; Buckshot is for hunting and slugs are for self-defense, right?

The place we went to was out of 20-guage ammo; Didn't check on .410 ammo...

Pretty much all ammo is hard to find right now, no? Also, I've been told that 12-gauge is the quintessential shotgun.

Her .410 isn’t real small, but for it’s intended purpose is fine. It has a laser on it for any nighttime use if ever needed.

A .410 is good for young or inexperienced shooters. I don’t want her to be afraid of a weapon due to recoil. She wanted to rack off a few .308 from the AR10 that day and I told her no. She shoots the AR15 just fine and that is all she will need anyway. The AR10 is just way too heavy for her to handle properly.

For the same reason I won’t let her shoot a 9mm yet. Her hands almost fit, but I want her to have proper hand placement and control first. She has a Browning Buckmark .22 and enjoys shooting that. For me, I would rather her hit a target 8-10 times with a .22 vs missing 18 rounds from a G17.

    First time shooting a pistol.

I feel like a slug would better suited for, like guerrilla warfare or any kind of combat with another human being, than buckshot...
