Another shet of shliders. 21st set of the year so far

 

Picked up my dump bed trailer sheet metal parts. Took alittle while but hopefully I get the ball rolling with the frames. Will bolt the bed together and use it as a jig.

Frame is made out of thick stock and it will be multi purpose since space is a constraint around here. Trailer will be a dump with a removable tongue and the trailer frame would be my welding table for making large items since I don’t have one. Definitely it will be overbuilt.

 

Small run of low profile bumpstops. Small bead around the bolt on the back side. They're threaded into the plates. Weld is just a safe guard so they don't back out.





Ground the Weld down so the plates lay flat on the frame.

 

Never heard of that name either!

I have been looking at a inverter Powered Maxstar 150 to see if the idea is workable for in the field repairs .

It might be to expensive

 

Anyone have a source for Aluminum 5 bar (or 3 bar) checker aluminum sheet / plate?

It appears Alro only has the old school diamond plate.

 

We have one. No idea on the battery though. Works really well

Thought about getting a tank of tri-mix to mess with stainless. The Central Welding by my house only had one 125c/f tank and they wanted about $500 for it. I'll just hold off on that. Did get a 45~ c/f tank of Argon to finally play with my spool gun

 

Unless your really getting Hot and Heavy into lots of Stainless Fabrication .

Argon works very well .

Sometimes in those very expensive talks Some of us Wonder all the fancy Gas blends were a custom blend for one customer that the powers to be decided to mass market .

As the fix to all your process problems.

 

Straight argon for mig?

 

Yes it was what we all used back before all these fancy blends came out!!

 

Ok awesome. I'll give it a shot then. All the stuff I saw online said 98/2 or 99/1, and that pure argon was less than desirable. I'll play with some scrap and see how it does

 

I've used straight argon for mild steel and stainless steel welding. I didn't see a huge difference vs using tri or bi mix.

I didn't like having to do it because my Argon is for aluminum MiG welding. I had ran out of Arg/CO2 so I was forced to use the straight Argon to finish the job.

 

Your fancy blends can be a big help if your into a lot of production of Stainless end user work so things really need to look pretty.

In some cases The blends will allow a Hotter Arc with less voltage set on the machine .

Things that unless your looking at monthly numbers one would never really notice in a hobby type use.

Like anything in welding any change in any area base metal, gas shielding, wire properties machine settings all can change things.

In Stainless welding Knowing your base metal is so very important since there seems to be new grades every day.

Knowing what the application of the job is for can sometimes help to figure out just what you have.

Then when is Tig welding more cost effective then running wire.

 

Awesome. I end up with a lot of scrap stainless tubing, would be nice to make stuff out of it if I can make it work

 

To recap:

If you are painting your stainless welds, the cover gas is not that important.

If you welds will be uncoated, you need to use the correct shielding gas.

I'm not sure if it really matters with exhaust systems. No one will see that.

 

But I can see the exhaust on my motorcycles

 

Yeah, that's a bit different.

 

That's expensive. I used straight CO2 in a short bottle for a decade. (restaurant soda fountain co2) Airgas sells the regulator. Little more splatter but if you're doing structural work it's fine.

Who would paint anything stainless? Not food service for sure and not these.
