I’m going to hold off on completing the survey for a bit.

If ever there were an “unsend” button, someone is looking for it.

Honestly though, you have taken this well. I’d do just as you. Mistakes happen.
Work through it and let life carry on:thumbsup:

Let's say they replace the engine, the engine bay will get all dirty and many components will be disassembled and reassembled, many nuts and fasteners will be unloosened and then re tightened. Under the hood the truck may appear to the trained eye to be a used vehicle, even if it is a new engine. And then on future service visits maybe, or maybe not, the service folk remember; "AHHH, Yes! This is it! The RannyHilll'd Truck!" THEN, can you imagine, going to the same dealer years later, or a different dealer out of town because you're on vacation and the 20,000 service is required during the trip because OP meticulously tends to the service schedule, but with different Dealer service folk they won't "know". You may have to explain the non-matching numbers of the engine to the vehicle to these service folk. It's like a story that will never die, until, the vehicle takes its last mile, see's its last highway, gulps its last merry 87 Octane elixir, and then, and only then, will the RannyHill'd legend take its walk of shame to the highway in the sky.

Hey OP, did you ever post a photo of this truck? I feel like I want to know it just a little better.

One would hope a dealer would step up in a case like this and go over and beyond to keep a good customer happy. I do understand they don’t HAVE to. In my cousins case her resolution was automatic with no uncomfortable back and forth. One thing to keep in mind that a dealer replacing a car is not much different than Dairy Queen giving away a free cone on national ice cream cone day.

What you don't understand is Toyota could take years with continuance. As the OP truck is impounded as evidence.
Think. Sure, you will win. Is it worth it? Nope

I missed that one. You may want to consider photocopying that communication in its entirety, writing a special handwritten note to the dealer explaining how you will hold onto the survey card until after resolution to the result of said first service appointment, and then you will fill out the survey and mail it in. Remind them that the vehicle is still sitting on their LOT. Drop the letter, and photocopy of the blank survey card, all into a legal size envelope, mail it addressed to the Dealer. Hand write the To and From address on the envelope.

For sure. I figured I wasn’t going to get a survey request on that one but I did, a week and a day after the service.

Unless it’s a survey from Toyota
corporate (doubt it), why would the dealer give two shits what OP says in response to this survey. It’s likely an internal customer satisfaction tracking tool. It provides no leverage whatsoever. Everyone at the dealership, up to and including the owner, already knows about the fuckup.

It’s one of those automated texts that’s in my messages. They routinely send them and I fill them out but I’m going to wait for sure on filling the latest one out.

The last Honda I bought, the salesman [woman, Lea, I'll never forget her she was so cute.] consulted with me for about 5 minutes before I left the lot. She wanted me to be aware of the fact that I would receive a survey after I got home at some point, and she wanted me to fill all answers to the questionaire on a scale of 1-10, with a 10. So I think they care about the surveys. They care what OP says in the survey.

That’s why I take time to respond to the surveys because in some cases bonuses are tied to ratings. I like to do what I can to help good people out. My last couple of salesman got all 10s. I could tell it really meant something to them.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Online surveys are usually only valid for 5 to 10 days.

As for the matching numbers, what I understand is that the engine's serial number should fall within a certain range compared to a range of VINs to be considered matching. They won't be exactly matched numbers.

I think you’re missing the point, the surveys are a tool for the dealership to ensure good customer service, and as mentioned may be tied to employee incentives.

However, in a situation like this, assuming this is an internal survey, the situation is known by upper management and the outcome will be determined by upper management. There is no leverage with an internal survey when everyone is aware of what’s going on and the corrective action is potentially enormously expensive. The tech who fucked up the oil change is already screwed. The survey outcome has zero bearing on what decisions the dealership will make. Maybe a $50 bonus for a tech or service writer versus a, what, $10K engine replacement?

The survey would only provide leverage for a small, previously unknown complaint with a low cost to correct.

Hook, I believe it is an internal survey. Thanks for the insight.

For those suggesting a new engine replacement. How is one to know if the engine they put in is actually knew as they would claim. I have no real mechanical experience and would not know a new from a used engine in my truck.

I have replaced several engines. I always trusted the shop and was involved in the process. I enjoyed checking out the engine before it goes an and also taking the obligatory picture with me standing in the engine compartment.
