Common practice in major areas. I was in a Target once looking for something and overheard a reseller talking to an employee like he worked there. They most certainly make friend with people and get the jump on regular folks. Ive been collecting since I was 11. At the peak of my collecting I probably had close to 3500 or so? It got to a point where the hotwheels boxes outnumbered the rest of all my belongings. So I went to car show toy drives and donated almost all of it. Saved a few hundred of my favorites if I ever had a kid and stopped collecting. Fast forward to today, and the kid is 5 and we have about 500 or so cars that ive been opening up and posting on his Instagram account @NWCDiecast.

I started buying again because of the uptick in Jtin cars and other Japanese cars. Even though they are still very cheap, Hotwheels details just don't look good to me anymore so what we collect now are 64 and 43 scale higher end cars in the 15-30 dollar range and it keeps the collection much smaller haha. My favorites right now are Tarmac, Inno64, MiniGT and the random TLV.

I just ordered a Bobby Allison Datsun 510. Datsun made some really neat cars in their day. I'm partial to the old 620 / 720 mini trucks to. The problem was they started rusting before you got them off the dealership lots.
I look for quality and detail when I buy diecasts. Hot Wheels can be hit and miss but I still have a lot of them in my collection. To me what I don't like is all the decals. I often remove them and to me they look so much better. Because of the price they are ripe for modifications.

Finally found not 1 but 4, I was so over whelmed when I walked into the dollar store this afternoon, about 30 racks full of 2022 hot wheels. Took my sweet time looking for treasure hunts with no luck. Got close to 20 fresh cars I think though. 2 cyber trucks too.

Those dont look to bad. Wheel swap might actually make it look pretty close to realistic.

There’s a guy on TW that is painting one and adding stuff to make it look just like his real truck.

These are some of my 1/18 scale die casts. When I bought these new in the 1990s they were $25 -$30 but today they are up to $80+. Even though I love the detail in them I wont pay that much for them anymore. They will turn up at swap meets now and then for less and Ill grab them then for a lot less. The 57 Thunderbird has a removable roof. The others are a 58 Edsel Citation and 58 Impala Sport. I added a few details like washing the grills with black paint and thinner and added a few missing chrome details. december 2020 4 349.jpg december 2020 4 351.jpg december 2020 4 353.jpg december 2020 4 354.jpg december 2020 4 355.jpg december 2020 4 361.jpg

HW Speed Blur Van, out of a 5 car set, had a black/white '70 Dodge Power Wagon too.
Found that HW Kart van, had been looking for.
And a '70 Chevelle SS Wagon.

Went to the wallymert today and no matter how hard i try not to, i always end up standing there in front of hot wheels.

So i am there 2 seconds, picked up this set to look at and this family invades the whole area. Mom, Dad, 3 or 4 kids. And i can see them eyeing the set, waiting for me to put it down and standing between me and the rest of the cars. All of the digging through the display, pulling them off the hooks...

    Wtf

So, yeah the set is cool but i mostly boight it out of spite.

I think I just found the answer to my woes trying to find custom wheels for 1/64 scale diecasts. There is a company called samedwheels.com that makes several styles of wheels for guys who want to customize their 1/64 scale cars. William 63 often posts modified Hot Wheels with custom wheels which was driving me nuts trying to figure out where they were coming from. They sell packs of wheels for $30 plus $5 for shipping. Each pack has enough wheels to do 10 cars. They offer anything from tuner wheels to 4-wheel drive and Gasser style wheels.
Swapping them is easy with a drill and adhesive.

That’s a pretty cool set! Really like the moon eyes hauler. Would look good with the moon eyes bug rod on it. If it’s the same color yellow. Have to keep my eye out for that one.

@LowwlifeHB When I come on this page and scroll down I keep stopping at this Datsun. I don’t collect these but this is a really cool car. Love the details on it.
