    Hey guys -

What’s the best sounding CAI for our 3rd gens? Not looking to debate whether they improve performance or not, I really don’t care. I’m strictly looking to blow a few hundred on awesome sound.

Had one on a K20 mugen Si i had back in the day and it made glorious noises.

Is there a consensus on this? Seems like the TRD Pro one looks great but doesn’t really sound a lot different than stock.

Just run a velocity stack on itI do like a nice sounding exhaust, though

can’t tell if you’re joking or not re: velocity stack.

Maybe exhaust is the better way to go for a Tacoma? Guess I’m just partial to engine noise va exhaust noise. Many exhausts are way too loud and obnoxious for my taste. Maybe will look into this route none the less.

I would think freeing up the exhaust would be a good place to start. Gibson is the name of the exhaust. Good luck!

i much prefer a decent exhaust note to the vaccum "thoook" sound of a throttle body. reminds me of days past when we cut links off of springs, and added exhaust tips 3x wider than the pipe.

I had a K&N intake with their cone on the end in my third Gen and it was pretty aggressive sounding when you stepped on it.

I have the K&N on both my Tundra and Tacoma and they sound great. Adds a nice growl to the engine when you get on it. I have yet to hear an exhaust that sounds good on a V6. I had what I consider to be the best sounding cat back with the Borla S and it still sounded like crap. Get above 4k rpm's and its was very raspy so I took it off and sold it.

If you don’t want the drone in the cabin, I have a TRD CAI along with the TRD Cat Back. Sounds good to me and no unwanted drone noise.

For mild exhausts look into the TRD catback or Borla S type.

I found a used AFE Momentum GT w/ Scoop on FB for cheap. Love the way it sounds. I wouldn't want an exhaust due to the sound of the 3.5, but the intake i love.
