    Cool rig though

I thought it would be better with those aerodynamics. Still sounds like a solid 3mpg advantage

    Either of you guys regeared?

With the amount of thinly-veiled xenophobia that comes up every time the Mexican plants are mentioned, I'm sure there are plenty who would care.

I'm running 4.56 (stock is 3.73), but my truck is almost at GVWR with nothing in the bed. Running 32 inch tires as well, so 1 inch oversized.

You can directly order the model you want though. I looked into them, but for what I paid for my OR, I would have gotten a Gladiator with manual windows and locks and a very basic radio.

My uneducated opinion based on absolutely nothing for the gen 4 Tacoma.
    Two powerplants will be offered.

    1) Proven Hybrid power unit currently used in a variety of Toyota vehicles consisting of three MG"s, 2.5L Atkinson engine producing a combined 219 to 302 hp, coupled to an E cvt transmission and will deliver approx. 33 mpg combined. This will be an AWD vehicle utilizing an electric motor to drive independently suspended rear wheels for light duty offroad and towing service. There will be no transfer case, drive shaft, conventional automatic multispeed or manual transmission.

    2) Proven 2.4L Turbocharged engine matching current 3.5L engine horsepower but much more low end torque as is the characteristic of turbocharged engines and will be coupled to an 8 speed auto for a fuel economy increase of 10% over current configuration. Current 4WD setup will be maintained as will load and towing capacity.

Manual EV would probably be a combination found only in a commercial application like a truck or bus, that Toyota sells in other markets and maybe an EV Land Cruiser.

I wouldn't imagine there being a crossover of people wanting an EV and a manual transmission on the same personal use vehicle. Manual EV could be desirable for a pure race vehicle.

Yeah, this is likely the engine that will go in the Taco as well. Can't argue with better mileage from more efficient turbo engines. I have seen many of this guys videos and like what he has to say. Very knowledgeable. However, I think in this video he misses a point, which is rare for him. He drove the NX with the Turbo 4 and liked it's power delivery. The NX is not a 4runner or tacoma, both of which weigh 600lbs more and both of which have larger and heavier tires(rotating mass). The peppiness that he felt in the NX may feel downright sluggish in the Taco/4runner. We just don't know. In the end, it's not like we have a choice. IF they do make a hybrid option with the electric motor, that should give some needed power though. On the upside, it is easier to squeeze more power out of a turbo engine than a naturally aspirated engine.

Having talked to the lexus dealer this weekend during a purchase, they did say that the new GX460 will be a V6TT, or that's what they are being told.

I happen to like the idea of a IRS Tacoma. Yeah it makes lifting it drastically more expensive but if the Silverado can tow with IRS, I'm sure Toyota can figure it out especially with the reduced towing capacity of a smaller vehicle.

I was thinking the exact same thing....unless they make the new 4runner and tacoma quite a bit lighter for the next generation. Maybe use more aluminium or something for body panels like the f150.

I looked up the 2.4 turbo in the Lexus. In has 275hp and 317ftlbs (1700 rpm). Current torque is 265ftlbs (4600 rpm)

I assume they will lower the hp a bit, and increase the torque even more. But even if they didn't change the tune, the torque difference alone fully available at just 1700 rpm will make the new Tacoma feel way way more lively than the current one.

I am thinking that we may see more unibody construction and body on frame may go away. It will be lighter, giving more payload and better mileage. I can definitely see the 4runner going that way and sharing the platform with the highlander.

    How's that?
Same vehicle just different powerplants to suit different owners needs, same as Tacoma with 4cyl. 2wd/4wd vs 6cyl. 2wd/4wd or Rav4 hybrid AWD vs ICE FWD/AWD or Highlander with 4cyl. hybrid vs 6cyl FWD/AWD or Ford Maverick Hybrid 2WD vs ICE turbo 2WD/AWD , etc.
