My only concern is finding the right adhesive to glue the parts to the window since I have a dark after market tint. I guess it’s probably not the same adhesive as if I was glueing directly to the glass.

Great idea. Will probably give this a try after the write up.

Actuators will work but the best solution is to mod a window regulator. Several explanations on hear how to do it. I added the window regulator and this is my favorite mod. It will take some additional work to get it mounted & setup but the open & close time is the same as your normal window. Also the regulator is mounted behind the seat for a clean look.

Yes a window regulator is definitely better as it is faster and the actual intended purpose for it. Acquiring and modifying a window regulator to fit and pulling the rear window glass etc. is a lot more complex and expensive than this ~15 minute install of simply gluing mounts and wiring though.

What about the black rear window locking latch when its in fully closed position… Does the actuator still work to open the window when the latch/window is fully closed?

Wow, I'm planning on selling next spring but for $50 and the ease of install I might just do this. I actually have most of the parts to do it the other way but they're just sitting there as I couldn't be bothered doing all the work.

I have to imagine running the switch is a PITA. Also curious why not just get the OEM Toyota switch

the picture doesn’t show the motor part of the actuator. Can you inform how you hid that?

    Tempting..

Does the actuator hold the window firmly while it's closed or is it fairly easy to slide/force open from the outside?

Removing the rear glass is not necessary......
Yes, somewhat more complex ..... if you don't have a more advanced skills in "craftsmanship", you will likely be frustrated by installing / modifying a window regulator. I have about 50 bucks in my regulator "kit", wiring and switch, but a few hours in installation time.
This is probably the key factor in my decision to use a window regulator vs liner actuator motor. It's fast, silent and invisible.

Oh wow, i didn't realize that you didn't have to remove the rear window glass to install a window regulator.

Edit: just found this thread with detailed instructions on using a window regulator. Jesus is that alot of craftsmanship and time involved compared to just sticking some glue on. At my current rate of pay i would be better off just working two hours and paying someone else to do it lol

Cool, this is the first chance I've had to consider upgrading my 1-gen to Honda Ridgeline parts.

That Ridgeline regulator looks like it drives a cable bidirectionally much like how a power antenna driver works. That is another approach worth mentioning, in my case the side camper windows are difficult to slide so I doubt a standard regulator would create enough force to cause any action.

I still wish somebody would make an automated solution to pop open the side jumpseat windows on a first gen extracab. I'd pay a couple hundred bucks for that. A couple machined mounts and a high-power RC servo would probably do it but it's too much time investment just to get a single set working.

The suggested parts from Amazon arrived today. The actuator feels solid and looks well made. I just found out this morning that 3rd gens have power rear windows and might get a stock button instead.

I can also mimic that you do not have to remove the rear glass. I spent a total of $110 to do this mod 50 for the bracket and 60 for the motor 05BE678B-6707-48C5-85A0-735C378A1FF1.jpgA53011F2-AE07-4668-9028-6578B867BF5F.jpg622F4113-56CF-44C7-9371-B2583347B50A.jpg

Subd for the write up and pics. I'm curious also how visible this is with the seats in the upright position

I just received the parts for my 3G taco. Didn’t realize until now that this is a 2G taco thread. Oops, hope they fit ‍♂️
