How big of a ride did the dealer take my wife on.

My dealer gave 2 yrs “free” oil changes and free lifetime inspections. I brought my 2015 in for inspections every year. On one “free” inspection they claimed i needed wiper blades snd truck cant pass safety inspection without new blades. After a good 20 mins of arguing whether i needed blades or not i pulled out the receipt and showed him i bought them 5 days earlier that they were brand new. He says oh maybe theyll be fine and passed the vehicle. F$&king crooks. Find yourself a good shop .

First, do something thoughtful to make it up to your wife.

How old is your truck? Maybe the A/C service was warranted but charging above MSRP for parts sounds like poor business practice and I wouldn’t want to support them any longer.

In my experience, my truck is still under factory warranty but I won’t be going to dealer any longer for anything. I recently had a whirring noise in my drive train, could only hear it when coasting at low speeds or backing slowly. I thought it could have been the carrier bearing going and with a 4k mile road trip planned I didn’t want to take chances. Well dealer took 3 weeks to get me in for an appointment so I canceled the road trip. Then at my 9am Monday appointment I sat around for 3+ hours waiting for them to figure it out. Half of which time my truck sat on the back lot not being touched. They were about to send me out the door saying they couldn’t find any problem and charge me for the tech’s time. I was not happy with the service manager and insisted they go back for another look. Turns out the lug nuts were only finger tight and the grinding noise was coming from my wheels. I hadn’t touched them since the dealership had done a rotation at my last service.

This was last week and I still need to jack up my truck and take the wheels off to inspect the lugs. Should I send them a bill for my time?

You could always leave a bad Google review and see if that helps

Don’t listen to all these goofballs shaming you for taking your truck to the dealer for an oil change. Time is money. If you have the means to take your truck to the dealer and pay a bit more for an oil change, then good for you. I think you SHOULD take your truck to the dealer because if something were to have gone wrong after the oil change, you can point a finger right back at Toyota. Good luck doing that with a 5 min. Oil change place. Like I said, time is money. The time it takes to go up to the parts store, get the oil and filter, then crawl under your truck, get dirty, figure out how to dispose the old oil, etc. I’ll happily pay to drop my truck off and pick it up an hour or two later.

    Ha!

That will not do anything. My dealer has a ton of negative reviews, they don’t care.

Even if it was free I would not take my truck to the dealer for an oil change.
Never pay another man to change your oil.

I can’t do an oil change on my 2nd gen Tacoma in 5 minutes. 3rd Tacoma oil change is worse.

Takes an extra 10-15 mins tops. Don’t understand why folks make such a big deal out of it. It really is super simple.

Exactly. And you get a chance to inspect for leaks and things, win win.

It worked here. A buddy took his and asked them to check the battery. They said it was fine. His battery died shortly after. Left a bad review, and they called him shortly afterwards. He ended up with a free battery. Again, maybe worth a try if he wants to. Me personally, I'd never deal with them again....probably b/c they'd sign no trespassing on me after I chewed their asses out in person

    Ha!

I’ve always loved doing my own oil changes, so satisfying. Never once I paid someone for an oil change. Takes longer to drive to dealer and wait. Then probably deal with a scratch or oil/grease marks they left. No thanks.

Buy oil and filters in bulk and you don’t even have to waste time getting parts and oil every oil change. Super easy.

I have to agree. Your mistake for sending her. Dealers are hurting for service work and tell writers to look for anything to repair. Most dealers are doing it. Maybe not to that degree. Up to the person to decide if it is needed. Prices seem excessive. If you ever want to use them again, you should go complain. They might remember you next time.

Impressive. I had a horrible experience with my dealer, lying sacks of shit they are. Left a very long detailed negative review, zero fucks given by the dealer.

After I found GMs email online and CCed him in the email to the service manager, only then they took care of me.

    Yeah.
Our dealer called my wife's number to schedule the first maintenance on my daughter's RAV4. It has maybe 500 miles on it so far. My wife put my daughter on the phone and they had her about to schedule an appointment when I caught wind of what was going on. I'm like, wait a sec! I got on and told them it didn't even need a tire rotation, so we'd be waiting until it did for the first maintenance. They probably would have had her replacing air filters and everything else they could think to get by with. And it's not just women these days -- most of these youngsters that have never seen a manual transmission would have no idea to question the dealer. Anyway, yeah, they keep coming up with new "services" like that HVAC cleaning thing.
