I have Camburg spindles up front so maybe 4" of lift there. 3" All Pro leafs in the back. Apparently I should have had a carrier bearing drop this whole time because I think the bearing is going out. Making high pitched squeeling noises off and on. I don't know anything about this drop. Is there a standard size? If not how much do I need? 1/4"? 1/2"?

    Who makes them?

Also, how hard are these to change and what is involved? Does the new one have to get pressed in?

If I do the carrier bearing drop first, should the bearing be ok or should I change it anyway?
Is the bearing the same on an access cab and doublecab?

I took this picture of it the other day. It is looking towards the rear differential. There is that silver ring. It it loose. I can move it around. Is that normal? I know it's a lot of questions but thanks amigos.

How ya doing JD ? Maybe I can help. I can't remember if 2nd gens have a 2 piece shaft with dbl cardan joints or if its a 1st gen thing , regardless I'm sure your going to have to separate the intermediate shaft from main shaft to slide the carrier (center bearing) out, impact the big ass nut holding the yoke on to the end of the shaft ,remove yoke& the carrier comes off easy enough , slide the new one on & re tighten the yoke/nut & it will press the carrier into place.. Make sure you mark the flang where the u joints bolt onto the flange so it bolts back up exactly the way it was removed, its really fairly easy to do....Good luck buddy !! ;)

And yeah, there is a fair amount of movement in them & this is pretty normal, the actual bearing rest inside a big rubber gromet & obliviously the carrier drop is for compensating for the increased angle from a lift...;)

that's what's easiest to start with.1/4 for the most part takes care of most vibes. I'd also use a dry lube spray on the carrier bearing.

NP bro', just remember to mark the flange just like the awesome mech. did in the award winning video I posted :)rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::D) the reason it needs to go back up the way it came out... is balance, if you don't theres a good chance you'll get a bad vibration or if you had one before it'll be worse

I got faith in you young man !! :D

oh yeah, my hand is all better......:eek:

Thanks. I'm not adding a drop to reduce vibes. I don't have any. I just don't want the bearing to go out again. I'm going to look at that thread you said to look at.
Glad to hear your hand is well! What is your guys concensus on that ring I said that moves around? Does it get replaced as well? I ahould take a video.

Is it normal though Doug to be able to move that ring a little with my finger? It loose just chilling.

You mean like spin it with your finger ? Or do you mean it moves around when you push it with finger ? I'm going to take a couple pics of my old one & see if we can get on the same page..

I can push it and it moves maybe 1/8th inch. But it can spin in place as well.

If its the first one (outer ring) you shouldn't be able to spin it at all, its molded/attached to the big rubber grommet, if its the other one (inner ring) that should spin smoothly, there is an allowable amount of side to side movement, look to see if the one you have is torn away from grommet..;)
