    Yo! I survived! Had a great time...Finished 67 out of 287 in Men's open
Was on the gas the entire time/ I stopped for a second or 2 here and there to let people pass and had to stop for like 30 seconds to let a cramp in my quad subside.

Seems to be more of a mountain bike crew, but hopefully you can still appreciate this bad boy I got for my spouse. Wanted to come see idea for travelling options on the Taco. Right now we mostly do top of pop up travel trailer, but I feel like tailgate pad would be a good budget options if we wanna drive and carry the 4 bikes of the family.

I still think bars over the tonneau cover would be the most practical and would allow to use the bed... oh there's always too many choice and too little money...

Sweet that you got your little man to race! Hope he had a good time. Like you, I survived and that’s about it. I cramped several times after climbing up from skull valley and never found my rhythm after that. Tough, but fun day in the saddle.

Good idea? Bad idea? Incredibly stupid idea? Long, long travel 29er seems to fit perfectly, standing up in the 5' bed. No pressure on anything except tires. The strap actually technically isn't even necessary, but probably a good idea. I do use a Fox (Race Face) tailgate pad normally, but this might work for quick local trips.

Dont see anything wrong here. I use to always just toss the bike in the bed and take off. Never had a issue

In my gen1 taco with short bed I would stand the bike up with front wheel against the front of the bed near one corner, and rear angled toward the opposite corner. Since you're strapping that bike down anyways, you might try having it more upright. Easy to set up using the rings in the front corners.

Quit'yer bitchin. You know they're fun.
Gotta say. Ebikes are one of the best way to find new trails. Even if they don't pan out, you get lost, or can't find it, you still have fun. Unless you have to hike-a-bike out... 50 lbs suuuuuccckkkss to bush-whack with.

New to me 2017 specialized demo 8 ii sounds like a bad BB, but I took the cranks out and confirmed that its not. A reputable bike shop told me that the concentric pivot bearing goes bad and its a PIA - $200 to $250 labor + parts. That's expensive, right?

I found this youtube video that makes it look easy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDWPyr1FtmU

I tried removing the chain guide, but its TIGHT. I broke a 3mm allen and gave up. I'm thinking to try again and use a impact driver (the 1 with a hammer) and a better bit.

The bearing is behind here.. The BB threads out and the tool is part of the chain guide. The bearings are pressed into the frame.

ohhh man sounds like a good one. Character building. Nice work on finishing that in itself is a W.

Were you doing the 50? Or the 30?

The last group that was offering shots of whiskey and pickles, gave me a pickle and that seemed to help with cramps for the rest of the ride. I hard passed on my whiskey. 300 percent chance I would have yacked haha

personally id lean it the other way just in case something bumps and hits the rear derailleur. but if its nice and snug, you give it a couple pats and say "thats not going anywhere", should be good

I dont see how this is easier (or better) than using the tailgate pad. the tailgate pad is literally as easy as just tossing it in the bed, but it stands up, and leaves more usable space in the bed. plus you don't have to deal with any ratchet straps...

After stripping down my fake Asian Schwinn, I have to say that the Malaysian Shimano hardware is so bad it could cause mass bicycle deaths, when it failed under pressure.

That is if anybody could get the stuff to stay in adjustment long enough to actually ride with it.

I found that the heat gun was essential in getting those alloy cranks off the steel crankshaft but once I put a puller on there and applied heat it came right off.
    26F320EF-3B06-4A77-8883-075006584FAC.jpg

I’m not going to use these because of the crappy pressed on sprocket arrangement, but I am going to put them on for experimental purposes because I want to try riding with a different size front sprocket.

I’ve never seen sprockets like this that have staggered tooth sizes and special guide slots to derail the chain under load.

This is probably 30 year old technology if it’s on a bike this cheap. Unfortunately I’ve essentially been out of the bicycle riding business for 50 years now.
    07177DF4-7A2F-4939-910D-07788F2AEB70.jpg

I can’t believe the unforgivable plastic crap they put on this bicycle!

Maybe later I’ll cut one of these arms down and make a shifter out of it.
