These auto manufacturer truck assembly lines are some of the most profitable operations for them. They aren't going to be in a hurry to change things up if they don't see the market potential. Not sure there's a huge demand for a diesel tacoma outside of tacomaworld.

Move to C.A. or S.A., live in one of the ex-pat communities, buy a Hilux. Done.

It is in Toyota’s interest to have 1 model and they obviously know it. Problem is it is cheaper to build towards other countries than the US with all the regulations so they are stuck having 2 types. There are other diffs between them, mostly cosmetic but in the end, it’s our regulations keeping it from us.

Most manufactures have similar model divergences between countries and in some cases it’s about what works and what doesn’t for a given country. Sometimes it’s just the name and there are many stories out there why those differences exists lol I can’t remember which it was (too lazy to Google) but the name was a bad word or something like that so they changed it for marketing purposes so it would sell.

Yeah they don’t want to deal with carb compliance. Cali hates trucks. Everywhere I went throughout the registration process all the people said that.

What motorcycles are you referring to? All the 500cc 2 strokes and true "little bikes" like 125?

We pretty much get everything else when it comes to dirt and street bikes. Sure we have a few more emission controls which you can rip out or large catalytic converter everyone always plans to remove.

This post is about having nice things, not about having crappy gm products.

Ugly? Compared to what? a 1st gen, 2nd gen, or 3rd gen Tacoma? :duh:

Tacomas are some awkward looking little trucks.:anonymous:

For the record, they aren’t the same trucks. They could use the same engines. But the taco is built in North America for a different market than a hilux built in Thailand. Why else would they give us a minivan engine?

I like all three generations, but some of the styling dosen't match the rest of the truck. The theme carries over on all three generations. I like the look of the 1st gen best, but the 3rd gen would be the most cohesive interpretation of the Tacoma.

I wouldn't call the Hilux beautiful.

Oh, now we’re getting fussy and want nice things.

Edit/full disclosure, I would love a diesel Tacoma with manual trans/transfer case and manual locking hubs, with all the cool tecky stuff.

Hilux isn’t good looking at all. Like a Subaru brat. I like the 1st gens as well. My neighbors have a gang of old Toyotas in the family and they are always over there.
