I think I'd go with a Hilux over the 3rd gen, that might change if I could actually choose between the two. The lines and front end look more like a car then a truck, my opinion the Hilux looks more business, and the 3rd gen looks more Xgames. I'm also comparing the more utilitarian Hilux to the TRD Tacomas. Those Roco Hiluxs, are not to my liking.

same transmission, axles, suspension, same engine as the second gen. The same truck once you pass the body.

I wouldn't mind having a Toyota pick up built on a Land Cruiser chassis.

I don't understand people wanting a diesel tacoma, mid size and full size trucks now offer diesel engines but they don't sell nearly as well as the gas engines models do.

I don’t think you would. Perhaps the op should though. Maybe a diesel swap.

All Tacomas after 2021 are Mexican built.

2016-2020ish were split btwn Texas and Mexico depending on model/trim.

My '16 SR5 AC is Texan made, 99k miles and zero issues at all.

Current gen hilux is closer to the 3rd gen tacoma. Toyota did not pay to design 2 new trucks, they copy pasted as much of the design and parts as possible.

Again, we got a minivan engine. Copy and paste. But they paid to develop the trucks separately. They are sold in different parts of the world although they do contain the same parts here and there.
