Sounds good! I am only a half hour from the dunes, always down for a beer and some chit chat!

Somewhere visible. I believe the most common is on the back window, but some opt for the bumper or near the license plate.

I believe rear bumper is recommendation / required per definition, but I put rear window so its easily removable. Judging by all the other trucks that do as well, it appears kosher enough to pass.

It might also sound nitpicky, but I could have a TED talk about the silliness or inconsistencies in MI licensure placement depending on the source, not to mention how ever many people do it their own way.

-license plate tag on top right of the plate, except Winter Wonderland and motorcycle plates?
-boat tag at end of MI boat letters to the right of letters, on both sides of the boat? Even a pwc that does not have the room?
-orv permit and moped tag on the rear fender? Or the rear? Or someplace on the back visible?
-orv permit, hand over $26. Except the other orv stuff, that’s another $10 and wasn’t included?

Sadly I can keep going, thanks MI

I concur. Reading the DNR’s website it’s supposed to be rear bumper. I do window as well for the same reason as you. I’ve also never heard of anyone getting hassled for this either. My guess is if your vehicle could pass as a daily driver they probably understand why someone would opt for the window instead and just look the other way.

The Mrs. and I are going to get up to Drummond Island June 2-5 before school is out and that place gets swarmed if anyone wants to join up for some or all of the time. Ill be in a double cab long bed/ so probably not going to be pushing the technical stuff much, but I have full skids and a decent spread of recovery gear so we'll see. I have a decent set of recovery gear, in case anyone wants to join but has some reservations about getting stuck. Thinking along the lines of exploring the island and more beach front relaxing/cooking when we find a nice place to enjoy. We plan to camp on the island with the truck wherever we can find a spot. I should have a new GMRS radio by then, too, but I have handhelds as a backup.

Anyone truck camp on Drummond? I see that driving on beaches, through water, etc is prohibited, which I expected, but I can't find any details about where vehicle camping is allowed. Dispersed camping is limited to 300' from water, 100' from trails/roads/etc, but vehicles are also not allowed off of marked trails. So how can one camp in a vehicle without booking a campsite? I'd prefer to not be near others at a community campsite.

Lots of spots to disperse camp on drummond: shale beach, marblehead, raynolds bay, fossil ledges, etc.

    Personal favorite is shale beach

Did you camp on the rocks right "above" the beach?

Is it ok to camp pretty much anywhere that is within 50' of a road, trail, pathway, etc as long as you comply with the state land rules and camping registration rules?

My son's and I camped on Drummond island back in the mid 90's. We camped by Glen's cove. I think it was sheep ranch Rd that took us to Glen's cove. Very nice camp. Some of the offshoot two tracks can get pretty rough though, especially by the water. Very rocky. Skid plates are highly recommended. Very nice place to explore. Hope this helps.

We used to snowmobile there from the Western edge of Manitoulin Island.
That was in the late 90's and it was for illegal booze/cigarette runs!! I had a buddy that lived in Gore Bay and we used to load up the sleds with as much as we could carry. I have no idea how we never got caught.
    Ah youth...ignorance is bliss!

    Hey!
I have ordered my Permits through the DNR and I was thinking of doing a run over to The Mounds ORV park later this month.
    Anyone ever go there?
