I'm going to talk with the IT guy tomorrow - he was off today - and see if he can do a scheduled weekly backup to a cloud server or something.
I know she had her laptop with her in the meeting and was seconds away from deleting everything. we would have been completely screwed.

thats what got me too. and she kept giggling which was just adding to my rage. its not funny where i was sitting this morning.
if you don't understand just leave it the hell alone!
not to mention that my entire world revolves around that folder and all of the files contained within. not so for her, she doesn't have any business even being in there!

If the IT guy has any smarts he can set settings so accessed files cannot be deleted or renamed once the project file folder is created without a password…

    on edit.
Have it password protected for the only people allowed for that project.

    WTF.......

Clicking the "like" button didn't seem appropriate, but I can definitely sympathize with you. Hopefully IT will make it a 'read only' file/folder for the nit-wit.

She should not have admin rights to that folder, read only.

 She can't really be that stupid, can she?!?!?!

My "favorite" person at work (we had files we all worked in, so we could all update it) used to save a "copy" for all the files and then complain when her changes weren't on the original.... and she couldn't see our updates/changes.... so yeah, I guess she can be that stupid.

X2 or 3 or 4 - definitely get those files backed up!!! and unless she needs to make changes, she has NO privileges on the drives!!!

    evening boys n' Weesa

    oh, she definitely can be
used to work with another guy who didn't understand why he couldn't save a copy of the files onto his desktop and work from that, then replace the main file on the server. once he removed those files they were obsolete as far as i was concerned. and the whole idea of having everything on the server was to limit it to one person accessing a file at any given time.
one day he was working on something. i was working on the same thing. finished what i was doing and moved on. few days later i go back and all of my changes were gone. wtf. so i asked him if he happened to have a copy of said file on his desktop. yup. i said have fun redoing all of my work that you just erased. i dont have time to redo it. didn't happen again after that. finally got through to him. sometimes you gotta make them fix the problem for them to really understand things.

That's the way ours is - only one person could make changes at a time. I'd go in and delete the copies, as long as the original was still there, but sometimes that disappeared....

    Good morning everyone :hattip:

Strong thunderstorms rolled through around 0200 and are just now getting past my area. Should be dry the rest of the day and forecast is calling for mid 80’s.
