What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

My cbi sliders with the kick out sit pretty far out and I actually like it a lot, it’s saved my body panels quite a bit. But closer to 15 degrees. The tucked look does look slick tho.

 

Just curious, what type of springs did you go with and why? I put a set of Wheelers progressive add-a-leafs on my old OEM set a couple years ago. They started out fine, but now I'm seeing more sag than I like and might be replacing the complete set with new ones soon.

 

ha, I’m not going to be the fun one to ask, these are General Springs ‘stock replacement’ - wasn’t looking for a lift and these seem to be the closest to stock ride height. They’re also fairly inexpensive, figure I should be able to get some years out of these before contemplating a lift.

 

Sure. I understand your point. I only want about 1.5" of lift to level the mild lift in the front, so this limits some of my options or will cause me to modify some of the higher lift spring packs.

 

I wonder if you threw an AAL on a stock replacement if you’d have the same sag problems - my OEM springs are so frowny/fun house mirrored that I could imagine an AAL would explode within the year if I tried to keep the OEMs

 

Its a good point and I have been considering this option - for sure one of the lower cost ways to go. My old OEM leafs had over 300K miles so they were dead for sure. I have been looking at the Deavers which shows 1.5" lift, but these are a very expensive direction and probably more suited for more serious off-roaders than me - I just don't know if I would ever notice enough improvement to justify the cost.

 

Perhaps it will help your decision to know that I ordered Deaver J59s through bilsteinlifts.com (best price I could find) in February, with the site showing a 6-week lead time. 11 weeks later I checked in and they're still estimating another 4-6 weeks.

 

Thanks. After waiting about 5 months from Shrockworks for a rear bumper and dealing with crazy delivery times in my work, I've become comfortably numb lately with long deliveries. Pls. do post though how they turn out if and when you finally get them on.

 

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the stock replacement General Springs set you back?

 

Came to $392.51 after shipping, but I had also bought my new ubolts from them, so a bit less if you only go springs. Shipped immediately and had it in like 2-3 days. Fair warning, theres a passenger and driver side part number

The HD springs are for “extra weight” - probably just have an overload leaf or something, i don’t have a cap so I went with the regular pre-runner/4x4

 

Do they come with new bushings or do I need to order separately?

 

Bushings come preinstalled

Those bolt threads are gonna chew up that eyelet bushing real good. Unless there's a metal sleeve that's not shown.

 

Yeah it's already beating up the bushing after a few years. I don't think there was a 3/4 bolt with a longer shoulder available without ordering a box of 20 when I needed it

 

Yeah thats not gonna be great for your lower bushings...which also I hope you are replacing. thing looks pretty chewed. But any new bushings on the bolt and it'll die a fast death.

Or you can run a sleeve which will help. The threads will eventually wear down likely and not work great.

 

yeah, I'll dig around at Ace and see what I come up with. Maybe I still have the original spring plates and can cut the shock mount off of those.

if not I'm not too worried. When i wheel this truck it gets trailered. It think I've put like 1000 mi on it in 3 years. it'll hold me over til I get the energy to commit to a new rear axle LOL
