6 speed manual any good?

Im looking into a 2009 4x4 access cab off-road package and im just wondering if the 6 speed manual in this truck is any good or if im better off getting the automatic

What are the drawbacks of the manual? I don't get stuck in traffic too much but i don't want a slushbox for a tranny if i do happen to

 

I test drove both and preferred the Auto. Perhaps I'm biased as I'm one of those folk who likes Auto in everything except sport cars.


The Auto is quicker and gets better gas mileage as well. My favorite Auto transmission outta everything I've drove.

 

I have 130 miles on mine and so far I like it. A little annoying with it keeping the revs up from 2nd gear on but i am getting used to it. It is also a blast to drive. I had an auto prerunner and liked that too, but, it doesn't lock you out of possibly hitting into park or reverse while going.

It happened to me when I had some trip slid thru the back window and next to me on the arm rest. no damage though as the reverse automatically goes to nuetral above 10 miles an hour.

 

Automatic!!!! Had a manual and traded it for an automatic.

I loved the manual in my old '90 Nissan which is why I wanted the manual, but it was a mistake in the Tacoma. I hated the way it shifted and after a year and couldn't handle it anymore.

Like others have said, test drive both and go with the one you like better.

 

I have the manual and I love it. The downside is it does get lower gas mileage than the automatic because it's geared differently. It'll rev about 500 rpm higher than automatic at freeway speeds.

 

I really like mine. Its a lot of fun to drive, aside from the revving while clutching, its great. The mileage isn't that bad. gas is down to $1.58 here

 

3 center console cupholders (6spd) vs only 1 (auto). Your decision is easy.

 

There are three in the auto as well. The other two are in front of the gear shift.

 

Plus, IMO, the manual is better off road!

 

Manuals normally get better gas mileage, You will never see me drive an Auto. Unless my leg gets cut off!

 

I love the 6 speed. Yes it is geared differently, but so what. it defiantely makes for a more fun drive and gives you greater control of the vehicle.

Also, not that anyone on this forum would EVER think of doing anything Illegal.....but sometimes having a clutch really helps get oversized tires spinning.

 

I have an 09 X-Runner, so I didnt have a tranny choice, but I have no problems with the 6spd Manual. The rev up between gears is annoying at first, but you get used to it and dont notice after awhile. You can really throw the back end around with the grand-daddy low ratio of the 1st gear This is my first rear-wheel drive vehicle

 

+1 more for the manual, i got it on my 09 and love it. For whatever reason I do not experience the "rev up" when I shift. Feels solid and is really fun to drive.

 

Never owned an auto and dont really plan on it. +1 for manual

 

ne one who tells you get an Auto isn't a real diver.


And the manual should be getting better gas milage since u can control the RPM's

A manual is an overall better choice than an auto any day of the week.

 

The V6 6-speed manuals are geared differently than the V6 Automatic. The manual will run about 500-700 rpms higher than the auto will at the same freeway speeds.

 

I just got the 6spd manual and overall I like it. The revs do hang btw shifts, but like others said you get used to it.

The mileage differnce between the 2 is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme. 1 mpg is differnce is about $75 a year (15k mi/year) extra at $2 gallon. If you're worried about $75 a year, you shouldn't be looking at a new taco, but maybe a civic....

The annoying thing about the 6spd for me is taking off in 1st can be very jerky and the truck shudders if you don't do it just right. I little too much gas before the clutch is all the way out and it shakes and shudders. Quite annoying..... Pretty sad when I prefer the clutch take off on my 94 pickup....

I drove the auto, and overall it's a very nice tranny. But it's still a slushbox and shifts when it wants to, not when I want it to. I don't dirve in much stop and go traffic...so I couln't do it. If I did, I might have gone auto.

Drive both for an EXTENDED period in various traffic conditions before you make up your mind.
