I haven't had an issue with mine. I had a Stant one that I really liked that's still sitting at a gas station in Oregon (thanks, Oregon). I picked up a replacement that's not as user friendly but it does have a little door that goes over the key slot. I think it would help keep the key slot clean, but I also think it could freeze over it. I'm planning on picking up a Stant one to replace this one.

The one I've got now you need to unlock it and lock it with the key whereas the Stant one you only need the key to unlock it, it locks automatically when you put it back on.

Caught a guy stealing fuel out of my truck many years ago. My dog alerted me in the night, so I let my 100lb Catahoula hunting dog on his ass… this dog brings down boars. You should have heard him screaming for his life…it was so satisfying.

Not to sound stupid, but I thought these cars from say 2010 and up have a rollover valve in the neck making this impossible to get siphoned. This prevents fuel from flowing out of the neck in case of a ROLLOVER. I don't know how they could of by-passed this...I tried to siphon fuel from my 2014 chevy, no way I could not get the hose to drop down into the tank ? Sorry that happened to you, that really sucks.

    Oh look, another mod....

This is why I won't buy a locking gas cap. The thieves will probably cause even MORE damage getting it off. In my mind, it isn't worth the cost of the potential damage that can be caused.

Your lucky the thief didn't sue your ass. We had that happen here years ago when a thief try to break in a neighbors car....their dig was on the porch, and heard/spotted the thief then bit him. Friggin thief sued the owner of the home cause the bite him not being on a lease. Owner had to pay his medical bills to.

What locking lid is that? I've always wanted one but scared the cheapo things will break and get stuck locked on my tank lol. 3 years strong seems like a decent cap.

@Quarterporch sorry to hear that! That sucks! I just got back from a work trip last week and someone had cut out my catalytic converters. Perhaps the craziest part is it was in an industrial park in New Hampshire where there isn't much crime and there are second and third shifts coming and going.

It happens everywhere. We have cats cut and gas siphoned all over the place —next to police stations, in college parking lots in super wealthy areas, etc. Sorry it happened to you, OP! Bummer.

What is most lame about it is how much gas can they actually get? $20 worth ?

I'm retired and don't worry about it but if I wanted a job that paid $15+ an hour I could get one in 15 minutes or less....

I believe unemployment is at record lows and there are jobs available everywhere. These fkers on the side of the road asking
for money - got no use for them either - I mean right outside of Home Depot they stand around asking for money, and I mean
people who look to be in good shape too, ... and Home Depot is hiring like mad.

Just drive around with the gas light on and fill a gallon at a time. They can't steal your gas if you don't have any gas in the first place.

Kidding - sorry this happened. I was thinking this might happen someday with gas prices as they are.
