Does yours have a sunroof? If not, was you running your AC?

No sunroof, and yes I'm in Florida and run the AC most all the time due to humidity, and not using recirculation button.

I’m in FL and had the exact same issue in my 2017. What fixed it was getting hit from behind while stopped by a car going 65mph ☠️

Here's the problem, it's a Toyota engineering design problem, which I'm going to get hammered for suggesting on here that something is wrong w/ a Toyota, but who cares! Lol. I have a lemon law lawsuit breeding right now, so I know why water is on passenger side mat and on carpet when running AC in hot humid conditions as due many others on here but most just accept it or just gotta be a smartass! THE OUTSIDE OF THE HVAC BOX WHICH IS INSIDE OF VEHICLE SWEATS WHEN RUNNING IT IN HOT HUMID CONTIONS ON LONG DRIVES AND DRIPS DOWN INSIDE OF VEHICLE ONTO THE MAT AND CARPET! Toyota Corp is aware of this problem but it's not a safty issue, only a money issue for them, so they just say, operating as designed! I know because I watched the dealer take glove box out to expose HVAC BOX and and it was literally enveloped on the outside of box w/ water and dripping!

One of the sale pitches when I was shopping around was, auto climate control, set to the desired temp and it adjust automatically when to recirc or fresh air mode. Lol. Oh well, I tried the recirc mode manually as was recommended by dealer and Toyota headquarters, but it still dripped. Driving around town or a short trip, no problem, no dripping, but a steady drive @ highway speeds or above for an extended time, like close to an hour is when mine does it!

I respect the desire for “set it and forget it” but we still have to use our heads...
Using a/c without recirc is just flushing money down the toilet, regardless of wether the condenser sweats or not.
It was 35 degrees on my way to work this morning and auto still picked a/c. I really don’t care if the truck thinks it’s too humid in the cab or outside or whatever, I’m not paying for the gas to use a/c while heating the truck lol

Your right, but just because your AC light is illuminated on your button doesn't mean ac compressor is actually engaged ! Mine also illunates on chilly morning when I have heater or defrost on but ac compressor is not on or operating like it does when it's hot. Oh well, hopefully most don't have water leaking on the floor mat and carpet like some of us, but I have seen a few threads on here w/ the same problem, so it does happen, just I never owned a vehicle or ridden in one that leaks water from the operating the ac and the HVAC BOX SWEATING AND DRIPPING inside of vehicle!

Would it surprise you to find out the issue you described was also happening to Gen 2 models? Numerous service bulletins and fixes confirms Toyota is well aware of this problem but like the rusty frame problem which goes back 20 plus years it confirms that the company doesn’t care too much. How else do you explain problems that span decades without resolution?

Doesn't surprise one bit, I just didn't know if it was only 3rd Gen. The explanation is pretty simple, it's all about the money, unless it is a safty issue that they determine will cost them more in the long run w/ lawsuits, they as do all manufactures are not gonna spend money on an inconvenience as water dripping on the floor, the only reason Toyota had a recall w/ the 3rd brake, light leaking water inside of vehicle wasn't because of going in the vehicle, but the potential of it shorting out the 3rd brake light and them getting sued for defective equipment! It's always all about the money my friend!

Fresh air is tastier to me than recirculated.

Found this out with my wife's '07 Highlander. It happened about the same time we got a new windshield, so it took a while to sort out. They make brushes that will help clean them out.

Same issue but it’s under the mat or carpet. Going to run the ac and check for condensation. The carpet stinks.

Recirculating the cabin air removes humidity and drops the temp further both of which makes you feel cooler. Best advice is to comply with all the known water leak areas outlined in the TSBs then before exiting the vehicle turn AC off and run fan on high for at least 3 to 5 minutes to dry the condenser. Ive tried this and viola no more stale smell coming out the vents. It’s definitely a design problem that Toyota doesn’t care to address. You can buy the deodorant foam to clean condenser and then do what I’ve mentioned above. What have you got to lose?

Good luck on finding a solution. You can do it! I'm with you thinking there's got to be a solution.
