You are correct. These are not ultrasonic welded like most conventional tail lights. There are assembled with a sealant. It's not butyl rubber, and I have not experimented with how to open them up, sorry.

I love the reds personally. More so than the clears. They don’t pop out as aftermarket until you see them lit up. Then, they are very distinguishable:smokertransformer:

I have the lens covers that came with my current Sport. They work for me!

If I ever do make a change, it will be for the REDs,

Not the greatest picture since it was cloudy out. The clears on cement look legit, but has anyone tinted or smoked theirs? Curious as to how much it would affect the brightness.

    Don’t tint.

I feel tinting on a necessary light output for safety and functionality is a downgrade on multiple aspects.

just my thought. Your truck though and you have every right to do what you want.

I will say, I got mine tinted. When they first layed on the tint, they were black, like AC/DC Back in Black type of black. :anonymous:

I think mine was actually more of a vinyl wrap, but the translucency is starting to come out, and they are looking pretty good.

They aren't on the truck at the moment though.

Nice!! Whenever you put them on if you could give an update that would be legit. I'm going to rock the clears for a bit, but I'm interested in feedback on how much light output will be downgraded before making a decision.

I would also be interested in seeing how those look lit up! That pic really has me wondering how they'd look on my black truck

I'm mostly curious how the amber will appear with that. Definitely follow up and don't blue ball us.

I had some tint laying around and was curious. Output isnt that bad but it does decrease a little bit

i had done that on my eclipse tails, eons ago. i mostly did it so the film obscured the home-built nature of the pcb's, and gave the overall project a more professional appearance. tinting film really doesn't affect output that much due to it's consistent quality. it's the darkening spray that leads to more inconsistent results.

Thank you for the experiment and the reference photos, I was considering some type of tint on mine too, but after see'ing the light output decrease a bit, I will leave my clear lenses the way they are straight out the box. I really liked my Total Tails with the amber turn signals and the full "C" brake lights but I really love the overall look of these on my truck each time I see em lit up :D

I noticed some "slight" leakage on one of my tails, I don't want to go and completely removed lens and reseal. What would y'all recommend for a quick touch up on the seal, or shouldn't I touch it at all?

I will say, they are still darker than I intended for them to be. They will look great once I get rid of the chrome bumper. I honestly think the black contrast helps them stick out when the brakes or turn signals are being used. Don't get me wrong, light output is definitely reduced, but not to where I would say its dangerous or even annoying in direct sunlight.

And since I'm at it, I'll throw my two cents for a review too. I was pleased with mine and didn't have any issues in regards to QC. They were packaged carefully and were well protected. They look great and add a nice modern touch.

The first issue I do have is with the 3D light bars, and no, its not because I basically threw black paint on mine. The issue is that they don't have great output when viewed from at an angle, only directly behind. The light bars really only project the light in one direction. It has been mentioned by a few other people as well I think.

The second is the reverse bucket. All the light is up high, which is were the old ones were lacking, but I feel it doesn't all need to be up there. There's needs to be some light throw directly on ground behind the truck. The bucket is already split in half, so have the bottom portion angled a little lower.

The last issue is more of an annoyance than anything. The turn sequence is reverse of all tailgate light bars.

I would still pay what I paid for the lights. I'd still pre order day 1, even if knew about the delays. I like supporting our local vendors, especially the ones who are able to provide the level of service and quality Meso does. Plus, he is building one sick machine, I can't wait to see it finished.
