I just got a 2018 taco sport with jbl system and the previous owner must have taken the sub and enclosure from behind the seat. I bought a kicker hs8 sub to put in but after installing I can’t get any sound. Is there a way to bypass the stock amp to get my audio inputs?

I just can’t understand why I can’t take signal from the head unit speaker wires and run a sub like I have done in every other vehicle I have owned.

JBL system is not designed to do it that way.

There is a amp behind the rear passenger seat (its mounted to the factory sub box) behind the panel. Can you take a picture of the panel behind the rear passenger seat?

But to get signal to your aftermarket sub, your going to need to connect to the subwoofer leads coming out of the factory subwoofer box, if that box it gone then the plug from the amp that goes into where the box used to be. If the amp is gone, then your screwed.

The amp is still there and I used the factory sub wires for coil 1 and coil 2 to try and run the kicker sub but it dries the new sub. I ordered a replacement so I’m trying to not fry another one. I pulled my jbl slim sub from my wrx and used the front right speaker wires grey and blue to try and run it but it flashed the power light and then wouldn’t turn on. Luckily I didn’t fry that one. It is back in my car working fine

The hs8 is an 8 inch sub with its own amp 150w I am wondering if maybe the jbl amp running into the new amp is what fried it. I also tried a loc and it fried too which made my head unit stay on all the time.

Your going to have to show us how your wiring these things, because to cook a loc, cook a powered sub, and send another into protection mode means you got something wrong.

Where are you getting power for your subwoofer from? You should be running power right to the battery.

You ran the speaker output of an amplifier into a line level input of another amp? Yes, that's what fried it.

Unfortunately I was reading on here and someone said that’s how they had theirs hooked up so I did that being lazy. But when I took the sub from my car I ran it off the speaker wires to the right door at the kick panel but this also didn’t work it kicked it into protection mode. That’s why I’m wondering if I find the pin out for the head unit I can just splice onto the speaker wires before they go to the rear amp

Not necessarily, thats what high level inputs are designed for. There is a voltage limit on them, but the OEM jbl system is not going to max that out. I think the hs8 is set to a max of 10v.

While I know its a different company and everything, the audio control lc2i accepts up to 400 watts input to convert into a rca signal.

Is there something I can use to reduce that without buying a pac amp harness for $300

Reduce what? because I dont think the output of the JBL system is causing your issue.

Dang sorry I didn’t read that right I thought it said it would max that out. Everywhere I’ve read says I need to but this pac amp blah blah for $300 to make my system work with a separate amp just for the sub. I just can’t see why that is

The pac system replaces the amp and then you have to supply your own aftermarket amps to power the rest of the system.

What parts from the factory sub system are missing? is the box there? the panel that covers it there? If your just missing the subwoofer (but still have the box) just buy a shallow 8 inch dvc sub and be done with it.

The sub and enclosure is missing that’s why I figured a little slim sub would work.

I do pro audio, not car audio. I had no idea these high level inputs existed. It seems like skipping what in my area of expertise would be a proper gain structure, and also wasting power, what is the point of these inputs?
