Install was easy took 30 min. On the 05 and 06 model the climate controls are flipped so you put it to cold and you get hot. There is an update you do. Then there is a firmware update. And a zlink update. But those might be on the new units already

Regarding your question about the NAV button, there's no way to know. There are no instructions, explanations or directions available. All you can do is start pushing buttons to see what they do and go from there. The biggest thing I have found so far is Apple Car Play. My unit won’t do much of anything without it except play the radio. Which, by the way, sounds really good.

If anyone know of any professional in the Columbia SC area I can turn to please let me know. As I said in a earlier post, at 75 y/o this thing is totally out of my wheelhouse. My only REAL complaint is the dirty of instructions and explanations available.

Good to know you don't have to buy any additional adapters or cables to get the unit working.
I hope install will be that easy for me as well. I'm a noob xD

I bought an extension cable for the fm/am radio because it was tight but you don’t have to it just makes it easier. You should be fine it’s just plug and play. If you read the thread and watched YouTube your all set!

Well, ok, I give up. This thing is baffling and with no instructions or user manual available it’s borderline impossible. If you are a very tech savvy person, ok, maybe. But for guys like me, nah.

I’m yanking it out and putting back the OEM unit. I would love to return this this for a refund but I’m guessing, being that it was shipped from China, there’s scant chance of that happening.

If someone wants to buy it I’ll make you a deal.

    Peace out.

Have you tried maybe taking it to a cartoys or someplace like that to take a look at it? They might be able to install it and or fix it for a price

Took it to one place. Showed him the “Diagrams” and described what it was doing, not doing and supposed to do. He didn’t want to touch it without a more detailed, much more detailed, wiring diagram one installation instructions.

there are a couple more I’m going to take it to but I’m not very optimistic.

I don't understand where your problems are. The plugs only go to one place. Some of the ones on the until plug back into the unit. A car stereo installer should have zero issues installing it even without instructions.

If you read my initial post, installation is not the problem. Even I can fit plugs together. It’s the functions and what button does what that’s the problem. There are no explanations or instructions to be had. Admittedly, I am not very tech savvy. But this, at least for me, defies logic. Like most of the other computers, phones and iPads in my house, based on the information on their web site, I expected this thing to be more “Plug & Play”. But it certainly isn’t.

The frustrating part is, there are no function instructions or explanations to me had. I made a call to one of the “86” numbers (Which is China) and could not understand what that guy was saying at all.

Look, My needs are simple. I want a really good sounding radio which, admittedly, I have. I want accurate, on board, GPS navigation which I have. Except that when I use it the radio will not play. Lastly, because I hunt a lot, I want OnX which just doesn’t work well at all. Bluetooth, Hot Spot, WiFi? None of it will work together and I can’t find any information on how to make it do so.

Bottom line? I’m done with this thing.

I have all those things on mine. I'm as not techy as it gets, but getting the update from Sergey made things way better. But I doubt you could manage that hassle.

Learned 2 things this weekend that helps explain some of the interface problems I have had. Knowing these makes things a bit more manageable.

    1. Apple iPhones cannot run both Hot Spot and Car Play at the same time. It’s either one or the other. Since being told that I have also discovered that Car Play and Bluetooth will not run at the same time. I have no idea why but, at least for me, this is the case. So far I find Car Play to be the most efficient.

    2. Not all APPS on my iPhone will port over to run on Car Play. Something about being coded for Car Play or something like that. Don’t really understand the “why” of it. So to use those you have to exit Car Play and connect with Hot Spot or Bluetooth.

Just a FYI, Rob at SquareWheels Automotive has been very helpful. Thanks.

@Voyager28 I’ll try to answer your questions.

1 - iPhones can’t do CarPlay and hotspot at the same time because both use the Tx and Rx functions of the wifi antennas. The ability to sort which signal would apply to which function would be difficult, there would be many errors and unhappy consumers. Manufacturers aren’t willing to go there.

2 - Apps are indeed “coded” for CarPlay. The designer has to show Apple that their app is both useful while driving, and easy to use for safety. That’s why my Gmail app doesn’t work with CarPlay, but I can transcribe a text with my voice, function.

3 - Bluetooth and CarPlay don’t work together because CarPlay is the next step to Bluetooth. See if, in CarPlay, there’s a “voice” button (I’ve never used this unit) that allows you to call or text. As well, the Apple phone and text buttons should be on the side. If not, there should be a menu button there where you can choose the desired function.

    Hope that helps.

    Super! Thanks.

Follow up question, will a Android phone do Car Play and Hot Spot together? It sounded like this applied only to iPhones. But the way you explained it sounds like a common issue with both.

    Thanks again.

One more follow up question: When looking at APPS is there a way to tell if they are coded for Car Play or not?

@Voyager28 Not exactly sure on Android and Android Auto. The functionality is the same as CarPlay, so I’m going to say they are the same, but don’t quote me on it. I’m not 100% sure.

Best way to tell is in the AppStore. Should say “CarPlay compatible” in the description.

Another way, if it’s installed, check the CarPlay menu in your phone.
General->CarPlay->your device and see what’s listed.
