Hit'n'Miss or Small Engine hobbyists

Anybody out there enjoy working on Hit N Miss engines or small engines.

 

You into hit and miss engines?

 

Had a JD 1 1/2 but sold it a few years ago. Down to one Maytag 72 twin now, 1939 model.

 

Cool!! I got an International LA from a friend. It needs push rods, rocker arms, and probably a new spark plug wire. Still need to buy the parts for it.

 

How long have you had the Maytag?

 

I've worked on many small engines in my time on earth. Hit-&-miss not so much. Briggs, Tecumseh, Honda, Kawasaki, Kohler, Kubota, etc. I love working on them

 

Cool. Quite an extensive list.

I've done basic things like maintenance and tuning carbs but nothing extreme. The most work I've done on Hit N Miss engines is free a rusted valve, make a cereal box cover plate gasket, and figure out why an engine wasnt firing and other little things. I hope to learn more as I go.

 

Hey @six5crèéd have you seen or worked on a Sandwich brand engine?

I had a washing machine it went with at one time, bought it at an auction and redid it. Sold it to a friend several years ago, he put it in his den for a display.

 

They were a pretty big engine manufacturer that was located near where I live. The guy who introduced me to this stuff told me that there are some out in Australia even. They still bring them out to the fair each year and I hope to enter mine this year. Heres what most of them look like...

 

Wow that was a transformation! Did you ever run a load of laundry through it?

 

Before I redid it I ran some shop towels in it

 

You dont get a chance to do that every day!

How I got here....
New carb gaskets, set the butterfly valve correctly, stole borrowed a mag from a friend, cleaned the points on the newer mag, installed newer rods, rockers, and fuel line, and some other little things. The govenor must be sticking cuz shes running full send/wide open.

I'm pulling the head and rear cover off again to reset the butterfly valve because now it's not wanting to start at all!
