What do you do? Just spray paint it? Any sensitive areas to avoid on it from a fucntionality standpoint or special paint to use (heat resistance for example)?

Those of you with the miller cat shield, what replacement/alternative bolt can I use for the front (long) five from a store. I'm missing exactly those and was too stupid to count everything out prior to starting.

I just ordered the one from Talons Garage. Likes that it was thicker aluminum to provide more skid protection than others. When funds allow, will upgrade the Offroad skid plate to the Talons garage version.

I'm not big on working on vehicles so it shall be interesting for me to install this.

I just installed Talon's plate last week. It is awesome. If he makes it available I would buy one for the fuel tank.

For a gas tank skid plate, check out Victory 4x4. I just installed their steel one.

Yeah I did. They are sending replacements. In the interim I found some M6 bolts and large washers that will go into the cross member; just needed an extension on my driver. Has held up for a couple of days.

Interesting. But I am not sure how effective this will be. I saw a local news item where they were having a drive-up service somewhere for folks to get their cats painted and engraved. My reaction to that was that wouldn't stop thieves. But if law enforcement is serious about inspecting used parts outlets and confiscating them it might actually work. At least somewhat, in some places. But I still suspect that thieves will be able to find locations and dealers where the paint will be ignored.... and/or repainted black. And etchings can be removed with a grinder in about 10 seconds.

I have a Talons shield and it does have to be removed to access the grease fittings on the front drive shaft on my 2019 TRD Sport.

Well, it might actually be possible. The zerk at the front diff is the problem. You have about a 1.5" window in front of the side "wing" on the shield, and the zerk is about 5.5" back. The problem is the angle of the zerk which is tough to see in the picture, but with the right extension on the grease gun it might be doable. I'll give it a try and report back.

Thanks for checking it out (Talon). From the pic it looks like it might be doable. Maybe trim to improve access?
Miller seems to be the other one worth investigating. Would really be a PITA to have to take down for such a quick maintenance item.

Edit: Although, the grease needs to ooze from the universal joints to be sure it is done right and that requires a wiping down. Otherwise, it slings all over the place.
From the pic it looks like it might be wipeable too?

Luckily (unluckily?) my ‘21 TRD OR did not come with zerks on the driveshaft. Toyota switched to sealed bearings. I’ll only have to remove mine to do a transmission service.

If it turns out you do have to remove the Talon shield, I would recommend replacing the provided Allen head bolts with Torx.

I find Allen heads are too easily stripped. If I were planning on removing the shield annually, I’d definitely spend the $20 on the 10 stainless Torx replacement bolts.
