All manufacturers are concentrating on what sells, that only makes sense. I think it will be interesting to see which manufacturers come out of the supply chain issues better than others. Will each manufacturer dominate their own domestic market? Will there be a company the does better globally. I want to see what it is that determines who wins and who loses in this market.

Unrelated, and I don't know what the total sales figures were for 2012 Tacomas. The 2nd gen Tacoma was 7years into production when I bought my '12 RC and those were not flying off the shelf, but all 2012 Tacomas eventually sold, and I think Toyota went on to sell more '13 '14 &'15 Tacomas than '12s. The 3rd gen nearing the end of it's life cycle, is a factor, but there has to be something else going on that is slowing the sale of Tacomas.

There is more competition in the segment, there are market adjustments, and the economy as a whole putting a damper on Tacoma sales. Probably some other things as well.

Oh I agree there is more competition in the segment than there was even in 2015 (new Colorado), I think the problem is as you mentioned cost to value ratio now and affordability. We shall see how all this pans out especially with today's news of another rate hike.

Current gen is only 6 years old. With all of the chip issues, supplier issues, Toyota keeping gens for 10 years, supply chain issues, China shutdown, state of the economy, etc., I don’t see a 4th gen coming for several more years!

Fine by me! Gives me a few years to enjoy my '22 plus 1/2 years for the next gen kinks to be hashed out. As much as I'll want to jump on the train, it'll be best to wait and let Toyota figure out all the shit wrong with the new gen. Once those are all hashed out, I'll gladly trade my current truck in for a new one. Especially if they offer a hybrid (I'm all aboard that train).

I think you’ve done the math wrong. This is the seventh year of the current generation.

Most Toyotas follow closer to an 8 year cycle not 10, too many people here basing the long 2nd gen run as the standard, and the 4th gen mule has already been spotted testing with Tundra body cladding (will share same frame). I’m sure it will still release on the original MY24 timeline, may just be limited just like the current new Tundra in production numbers / availability.

Toyota might stop building the Tacoma for a few years to concentrate on the Tundra. If sales figures are any indication, Toyota will be focusing all it's efforts on the Tundra, and maybe the Hilux for the Mexico market.

Parts shortage could shut the plant down. If Toyota can't get enough parts to cost effectively run the production line. Toyota won't run the line. That's what's happening now, and parts are going to become more scarce.

True but I’d imagine if anything I would Toyota would just prioritize supplies for the next gen over current production.

I hope they are planning the 4Runner first.

I’m talking chip allocation and you forget Toyota uses existing parts from parts bins across platforms, and we are still into 22 production im sure they can throttle / adjust 2023 production and prioritize 2024 parts allocation / resources, never said they’d throw parts away homie, and yes even for 2022 GM did the “limited” for their left over parts, never seen Toyota do this though as they are more efficient with their processes / production. I highly doubt Toyota has parts stock piled for 2022 and all of 2023 Tacoma production as evidenced by current delays and supply chain issues.

I could of sworn the timeline was same release date if not earlier for next gen 4Runner.

So your saying Toyota can’t adjust over a year out (given 6 months commitment you mentioned)? And thanks for the inside perspective, homie!

Well learn something new everyday. Thanks homie (since you seem like such a nice person based on your response). Guess we shall see when we get the next gen Tacoma, @Carmaker1

Does Toyota still produce and supply using the lean production method?

    Check build thread!
So this is pure speculation from what I've heard around work- it would seem that 2023 could be BOTH the 4runner and Tacoma refresh. Likely hybrid options with a Turbo 4. Please don't take this as fact, just what I've heard around work.

What do you do for work and is there anything else you have heard regarding the new tacoma?

It's going to be interesting to see how the 2.4 turbo will work in the 4runner/tacoma. Right now the only platform using that engine is the lexus nx.

The 4runner and tacoma will weigh more than the nx, have larger tires that weigh more, and have worse aerodynamics than the nx.

    Doesn’t Subaru also? Ascent, WRX?
I may have been interested in a 2.4 turbo Tacoma if it had a MT, but I’d bet all my marbles that’s not going to be an option.
