These threads are always great, first they come on and say the 4.0 has more power, even though it doesn't, then they say the 2nd gen FEELS better, even though the third gen has better times, and they say we are the ones struggling the validate our purchases.lol

I know, ridiculous. I never do this kind of childish shit in 2nd gen forums, why would I?

The Colorado and the frontier will be in the crusher by 100k most likely the ford to, don't really no much about the ridgeline, but i do know it also has a "car" engine, as you say.

Well to be fair, a 2nd gen will eventually be faster after it drops weight from the frame rusting out beneath it.

Very well could be. Lots of fentanyl out there, can’t comment on the hookers though.

I had a 2020 SR5 V6 loaner for a few days and put 500km on it. I thought it was a really nice truck, the motor made smooth power between 2500 and 3500 rpm but the transmission logic sucked, anytime you weren’t moderately hard on the throttle it went into 6th gear and you were slowing down because it was 1500rpm and it wasn’t making power.

I just drove around in S4 ECT on the streets and bumped it into S5 on the highway and it drove awesome.

The motor is good, the transmission is good, the transmission software could be improved.

    Yep.

My dad has 2 4runners, in city he drives in s4. My buddy has 19 3rd gen and he drives in s4 in city as well.

It’s so simple, if you want less “gear hunting” use the s mode. It’s tuned for efficiency just like most modern vehicles, it’s not a exclusive to Tacoma.

In my opinion it shouldn’t shift into 6th gear until you are going 80mph. Or put 4.56 gears in the auto. Fuel economy at 80mph or higher shouldn’t be a consideration.

I still have a hard time understanding why people complain about their transmission shifting for them. It’s like complaining about a freely given blowjob. If you want to get your self off, buy a manual.

Clearly you've never had a bad blowjob, the human mouth has teeth and bjs can be done wrong.

To be honest with my taller tires and added weight I almost never drive around in “D” unless I’m going 110km/h or faster which doesn’t happen often on an island. I use 4 and keep the rpm around 2500. Fuel economy is the same. Lighter throttle, more power output, less torque converter unlocking and locking.

When I first heard the “gear hunting” term, I though for sure there is something wrong. Drove a couple tacos, and even though I obviously dislike AT, I was perfectly fine with the way they drove. Both were 19 ORs.

It doesn’t drive like an automatic from 90s, it’s tuned for efficiency. Don’t want overdrive gears, throw it in S4. Easy peasy.

These are great transmissions, just like the 5 spd in 2 gens.
