That top quote was for 1GR applications only....if you'll care to read the entire post.

Any reason you've chosen to so argumentative?

There was a 2.7 used for transverse applications a few years ago....Venza, Highlander, Sienna. But it was completely unrelated to the Tacoma/4Runner 2.7.

I like the 3rd gen but realized I had LAS (Limp Ankle Syndrome). This is both a strength and pedal finesse issue. I retuned my foot compression curve and have had no problems.

I drove a lot of 2nd and third gens when looking for a truck. Couldn’t find a 2nd gen, was searching for a ‘15 or around then.

    Actually…

One of the reasons I started buying Toyotas 30 years ago, drove more like a car than the 70s-80s 3/4-2.5 tons I was driving for work. Kinda refreshing to jump in after operating earth moving equipment all day.

Put an internal combustion engine in a car it becomes a car engine, in a boat it becomes a boat engine, in a truck it becomes a truck engine, etc.

I really appreciate Toyota's approach to modular design so I have no issue with it either. The people who have issue with it must be doing things way over the GVWR. I have a 2nd gen, my in-laws have a 3rd gen and I borrowed their truck plenty of times before I bought mine. Using both almost side by side I see no issues with the 3rd gen powertrain.

People should keep in mind this is a small truck by american standards. I notice a lot of complaints from people who expect more from the category. I wouldn't expect to buy a Honda Ridgeline and outperform an F250 in hauling. They're both excellent for their intended purpose. You buy Toyota because of drivetrain longevity even when its abused, no? Have the engineers failed at putting an engine in that meets this requirement? I wouldn't say so

I like to think the soft pedal is by design. The rear end of the truck is so light that if it came off the dealer lot completely blitzed when you touch the gas we would probably share an unfortunate youtube category with Mustang owners...

Also that's because I took the last 2015 2nd gen during the pandemic ;)
