Your most used/useful skill set?

I hate paying someone to do something, the only thing I don’t work on is air conditioning and automatic transmissions

 

I think one of the things I've developed is an ability to use materials for something other than their intended purpose.

My problem solving and patience have gotten better over the years.

I need to learn plumbing better. It always seems to test me in a way that irritates and I say screw it and have someone else do it.

 

I realized cutting hair has been useful over the years as well

 

i would be down to work on my AC but you honestly cant buy parts unless you're a certified repair man.

dido on the auto trans ive seen rebuild videos and after the first 30 min i decided that it would be better to just pay a shop

 

My best skill is being able to sleep when ever I have the extra 30 minutes here and there.

Some of those 7days 12 plus hour jobs any extra sleep is good !

 

Not getting AC parts must be a thing in your area I have never had issues years after I got out of that trade.

Maybe having the accounts and being known makes a difference Many supply houses just don`t want to mess around with walk ins..

 

Wow. I wish.

If I can nap during daytime I would have to be exhausted. I joke about taking a nap but doesn't happen.

 

Acting like I know what I’m doing and then looking it up later just in case it comes up again.


No but seriously, I guess I’m pretty good at figuring out how things work. Usually mechanical stuff.

 

Love it.

I love going Columbo style. Was great at work. I could fish answers out of people and they did not even know they were giving me answers.....

Guilty!

 

If i had to pick one skill and only one... I would have to say troubleshooting. And even that is not a single skill.

Being able to figure out whats wrong has been a large portion of my adult working life and this ability has made me a decent living. And saved me alot of money...

 

Well it seems like it only works out that way half the time for me.

I wish I had skills that made me money.

Basic First Aid/CPR
Basic Gunsmithing/Repair

Woodworking

Electrical
Electronics repair

Basically the skills needed if the SHTF.

 

There are plenty of tech schools in Bellingham, you don't have to go into it looking for a degree, just to learn. I just straight up bought a welder last year with zero instruction and watched a ton of YouTube videos.

 

Skills? Like real skill?
I got nothin’. Jack of all trades master of none. But I can do it. lol

 

Woodworking. It really focuses your mind.
Parenting.
Teaching adult Sunday School, I write my own lessons, so I have to study.
Learning Spanish it keeps the brain in learning mode.

 

Learning multiple languages over the years has been fun, but you forget it so fast once you don’t speak it any more. I used to go to Mexico with family/friends and be able to get around just fine. Now I don’t think I could understand or reply to a basic sentence. Used to be able to read and write Hebrew, and speak Pashto to a small degree. Now I can’t even identify the letters or say more than three phrases. Sad to lose so much, need to find someone to speak Spanish with again!!

 

I'd say Adaptability.

One of my old baseball coaches once told the team "I don't want a star pitcher, a star catcher, a star center fielder, etc.. I want a team full of ATHLETES. And an ATHLETE is someone I can put at ANY position, and not miss a beat."

That has always stuck with me, so I have always tried to learn all the skills I can so that I can adapt to changing conditions.

Essentially like other's have said : Jack of all, master of none.

 

A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.
