What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Refreshed my headlamps (I personally like the OEM lights with a blacked out TRD Pro grill). So I found these on Carparts.com for a solid price.

Also swapped the third brake light and tails. Unsure how I feel about the taillights. Keep or get something else?

 

Replaced rear shoes. First change at 170k!

 

I've liked the looks of those Tail lights for awhile, but I opted for the OEM Led tails. It was a nice upgrade for my '08

 

Rear wall panels mounted up. Now I just have to remove them all, sand, carpet, add washers, and we are in business. All my amps and other audio equipment will be mounted on this hence the mess on the bottom.

 

I think the tail lights look good on your truck. I have a 2014 and I actually prefer the pre-LED taillights on my son's 2005. I think the ones on mine are kind of lame: sort of a wannabe "fu-fu" look by Toyota because everyone else was doing it. It's embarassing. On their "favorite-son" 4Runner, they do it right with the LED application. (figures) If I wasn't broke and had the money, I'd swap them out for the pre-refresh, non LED flavor. Let's face it: the 4Runner is Toyota's "prodigal son": I'm surprised it doesn't have the Tundra/Lexus V8 as standard equipment. The Tacoma out-sells the 4Runner and Tundra by like: millions right? But no lighted glove box or 4WD selector, OR heated mirrors. One of these nights I'm going to try to adjust the air flow knob to "defrost" and throw it into 4WD at 75 mph by mistake. Not good. Go figure.

 

I upgraded to intermittent wipers. Best mod ever for the PNW. I also added hood struts. I installed the Sokietech hood struts because I didn’t want to drill into my truck.

 

I'd like to send out a warning to the community here, just because it's the right thing to do: Here in New England right now, if you run your tank down to 1/2 tank: it's going to cost you $50 minimum to bring it back to full. Do the math on what it's going to cost to you if bring it down to the "Low Fuel" warning lamp. Hint: "Heart attack". "C-note". (our CA friends: "Aneurysm".) Don't screw up.

I didn’t know Sokietech made a hood strut kit for the second gen. Did you just use the 3rd gen kit?

 

They make one for the 2nd gen. I was worried that it wouldn’t fit since it differs a little from the 3rd gen plus I couldn’t find any videos on YouTube reviewing them. I just took a chance and it worked. Fitment was perfect. Hood lines up perfect when closed.

Filler er up. I use a tank a week. Going to the gas station 3 times a week seems wasteful.

Hopefully it comes down soon.
