I should have totally out of the question before sending a payment and filling out that silly form, what it will need some changes done to the tune. Stop light changing gear ratio, tire size, battery. How will you guys treat that? And what kind of support can we expect from you guys?

Reason I'm asking is, some of those changes might happen with my truck sooner or later. And at this moment I can't get a response (pm/email) about how long will it take to receive the tune after payment and request. ( if that was covered previously and I missed it, sorry)

Good question. I'm kinda wondering how you guys handle change requests as well. I didn't originally think about whether I truly wanted gear lock or not, and so I didn't select it. Now I'm wondering if that might be useful. How often do you guys use it?

 

We will support customer changes such as tire size, gear ratio, adding AGM etc 100% free. If we come up with something that improves the tune that we feel should have been there in the first place, that also will be free of charge. If and when we do a complete overhaul, the tune will be renamed and at that point fees will be required to upgrade, exactly how much we are unsure at the moment.

I seriously only use gear lock (and am probably the only one of the 4 of us that drive with it) on occasion when i need to seriously target a specific rpm range. Outside of that I rarely use S mode. Reason being, you lose most of the functionality of ECT. Does it have it's uses? Sure. I'm just not a fan of it bwing there full-time. Some people swear by it. Regardless, hit any of us and we can hook it up.

 

Gotcha thanks man. Yea honestly the normal behavior in S mode has worked well for me. I do use it as my truck is 6k lbs and I live in Colorado. Holding it in 4th up some of the steep passes or 1st or 2nd down steep switchbacks I use S quite a bit. It usually stays in whatever gear I put it in so I'm probably good with everything as it is now.

 

Yeah, I totally feel ya there. The guys joke about my truck being "tubby" and I live in the socal mountains. So, I get you. Having 5.29s does help, and there are rare times I use S-mode. 2nd gear pulls are fun though. Lol

We're still limited on what can be done to second gen, but there are plans to incorporate what we can.

 

Actually I'm referencing the 4.7 V8 from 1st gen Tundy/4th gen 4Runners

Sooo, 30 pages later... LOL I am sold! Any chance there is someone in Northern Alberta? Grande Prairie-ish? Edmonton is a 5 hour drive.

Not completely adverse to getting a tuner and doing it myself if needed...

 

We do not currently have anyone in that area. The closest is in the Seattle area, and that's quite a long drive. If you did happen to purchase the kit, you'd get any tune for much cheaper than having someone else do it. And it would be easier for us to send any updates directly to you if necessary.

 

Is as much as I thought, haha Seattle would be a nice trip, but tough to convince the boss we needed to take my truck rather than fly...
Can everything needed to install/update be done with the vF Tuner and a computer?

 

Yes, that's what I did. Just know it does need to be a Windows computer.
