Some of the stuff I like, some if definitely overkill. Fairly hard to get away from all the electronic nonsense these days though. The basic no frills pickup doesn’t exist anymore, and hasn’t for a long time. Want super basic restore a pre 80s truck. Which I have thought of doing, but real tired of working on stuff at this stage in life.

Speaking of that Chevy, TFL did a mpg test….getting about the same as most Tacomas….16-19. And that is with a 6.2 V8!

My 2021 TRD Sport was one of the last built in Texas June 2021 and it is flawless and have no complaints at all and love this truck. I must be lucky just saying.

yep….since most of it is built by robots. Not too much human element in manufacturing anymore.

I think I know where Toyota got their Hilux design from:

Funny how everyone shits on the Ridgeline (for good reason) then pines over the Hilux

I actually the like the Ridgeline, before the refresh. It has its place, thought about getting one, like how the rear seat folds up and the in-bed trunk, but run down too many FS roads, thought it wouldn’t last as long as a Tacoma.

People pine over the HiLux not for its looks but for its chassis (2000 lbs payload) and a torquey diesel that fetches half way decent fuel economy. The biggest complaints about the Tacoma are, lack of payload, somewhat wimpy engine, and dismal fuel consumption. Hell the Ridgeline has better payload than the Tacoma…not bad for a minivan with part of its roof cutoff.

See...no difference between US and Mexico, having problems just comes down to being unlucky

My 2022 came out of Baja California and has also been perfect.

Mine too out of Baja. Only thing so far is the drivers window weather striping rattles a little when the window is down. Forgot to mention that the dealer when it is was in for its last service. Nothing some double sided tape wouldn’t fix.

Our ‘21-22 trucks are new…they damn well be good. Really won’t know if they will be until we get them to 100K miles…

You might be able to find a Hilux Surf KZN185 with the 1KZ-TE Turbodiesel in America. They get around 20-30mpg. Lots of people are importing them

the taco mpg is lame - yes, I like the ford tremor but dont really need a full size truck, wont fit in garage and smaller is better I think off road so taco is the right fit for me

Covid-related global economic slowdown. Toyota found a quick n easy 'hack' to raise profits... building the same truck as before, but solely in Mexico where labor is like 1/60th the cost of Texas manpower.

Edit: I think the move to build all tacos in MX was in 2021.

It is! Should be better for what it is, but oh well I like the truck.

I could use a full-size from time to time, was going to get a F150 super cab 6’ bed with the 5.0, but prices shot up because of the pandemic among other things. Tacoma came in much cheaper, still spent more than I wanted to, but desperately needed a new truck. Limped the old Tacoma (20 years and 434K) long enough.

So it just happens I'm in Honduras this week and thought I'd grab you a couple of pics of older 'nice things'. One of which is an everyday overlander (a real one, not a weekend park warrior with catalog parts)

    Enjoy

The f-150 tremor is kinda lame imo. I dont think its 400hp is used very well with its 10 speed transmission.
