Time consuming? Keith, that's a Coleman Instant-Up tent! They don't go up or come down faster'n that. Expand canopy, unfold chairs. From what I can see you have a set-up that conserves time now. Even hammocks take a little time to hang.

Yeah. The tent itself goes up in about five minutes.

It's setting up the cots, chairs, kitchen, etc. It takes a little over an hour to do all of that. Oh... And the kids really don't help much. "How do I unfold this?"

Packing though.... For some reason, that ends up taking about two hours or so.

I finally found time between work trips and really rainy weather to get my boxer pup out for a couple days of camping. I wanted to give him a run with just the 2 of us before a week of group camping in June.

Made it out for another quick over-nighter. Warmer than I've had this year so far, but the wind was still a bit blustery. Gave the shower cube and the Lavabox a reason to work (ran a trail race before heading to camp, so was in need of a shower to rinse off the dirt/salt, the shower cube and water pump were quite luxurious).

    Just the basics
Just used my Lavabox for the first time on an overnight trip this past weekend. I'm very happy with it. Ha this was a panoramic photo I quickly posted from work today...it didn't show up very well with the sketchy pano glitches.

how do you guys like your lavabox? ive been looking at those and the ignik firecan. the lavabox looks like it would be easier to clean if you cook over it.

also, can you use one of those smaller, green coleman tanks? or do you need an 5/8/10/20 lb tank with the adapter hose?

They make adapters if it's setup for a larger tank. I have one for my 58k BTU propane fire pit, but it doesn't last very long on the small tanks.

I built a pit similar to the lava box out of an ammo can. It was really easy. Uses quite a bit propane. 5 lb bottle lasted 3 nights burning it for about 10 hours total.

I like the Lavabox a lot for what it is. Not sure if you could run it off a 1lbs container (at least without an adapter, but it probably would WORK if you sorted that out. I like it for a couple reasons, packs easier than other fire pits, uses less propane (at least advertised) than many other fire pits...it was a bit windy, so didn't crank mine up above a pretty low setting, but I feel like it would put off reasonable heat if I wasn't dealing with 20+ MPH gusts.

yea after reading into it a bit more it seems like a 5lb is the smallest that would make sense. ignik has an 8lb tank that could be beneficial.
burn bans here in colorado are gonna make camp fires tricky unless its propane fueled.

have you tried cooking over it? either as a grill or with a pan? im sure basic marshmallows and hot dogs on sticks would still work fine

I have not tried cooking on it...I wouldn't want to drip much in there (although probably not that hard to generally clean), and most of my cooking is on a skillet/pan, so I think the general cooking setup I have works better. Not to say I won't try in the future, but haven't yet.
