I definitely will! Should have it back from the machine shop by the end of the week. I tried to like the longer shifter but just hated the way it felt.

I like the taller shifter personally. But either way congratulations to the OP.
I had to wait forever for marlin to have them in stock. I swear it was like a year and chang.

Could anyone send a video pushing it through the gears? I'm really curious how short it actually is compared to stock.

You can see how short the shift is after he installs it in that video. It's absolutely amazing.

Unfortunately that red anodized machined housing gets covered up by the shifter boots and you wont ever see it again unless you are under the truck or have the boots off again for some other reason. :-(

Just got my shifter back from the machine shop and all I have to say is, wow.

I'm pretty dang close to stock shifter height and it just feels so much better to shift; the tall shifter just felt so awkward. If the tall shifter is bothering you then yes it's definitely worth it to have it shortened 1.5"

    Here's a few pics:

And lastly - stock before the shifter was installed:

Thanks for the info. I may try shorten it my self and rethread with a die set from Harbor Freight. My shift knob has a fairly large hole in it and I still have some adapters from other shift knobs in my tool box.
I've done this before many moons ago with my old 1980 Toyota Truck, just never got around to doing it on this truck. You have motivated me! ;-)

Well, I had my first fail on trying to shorten my shifter today. Nothing horrific thank goodness. I picked up a tap and die kit from HF and when I got home I started taking the shifter apart and marking it to chop off the 1.5 inches. I thought to myself I better check out the kit before I start cutting and sure enough there wasn't a M12x1.25 die in the kit. There was a M10X1.25, M12x1.50 and M12x1.75. I took it back to HF and only kit that had the size I needed cost way too much for what I needed it for. I ended up finding a die and handle on Amazon so it is going to be a little while longer before I shorten the shifter. Moral to the story is always check your stuff and don't rush it or you will be kicking yourself in the arse!

Glad nothing crazy happened! You may need a lathe to turn the shifter down some to get the M12x1.25 die on it!

Yes, I am glad I caught it before I started cutting. I am hoping I don't need to take that much off, I could use a dremmel with a cutting bit and measure the size with my calipers to get the right size.

Okay, I finally have an update!
I got all the stuff I needed to cut the shifter down and it took about an hour to do it all. I guess the hardest part was actually chopping the stick down, but I got over it and chopped it with my cutoff wheel. Then I took it to my new belt sander and reduced the size of the stick to the m12 size of the die. Once it was to size, I used a lot of cutting oil and went slow cutting the new threads, it all came out good!
That little belt sander came in handy and I needed one any way. I took about an 1 1/2" off and now I can rest my arm on the armrest now while shifting. It's almost flick of the wrist throw and feels really good, I like it!
It doesn't look like I took much off of it in the pictures but it did make a difference. I should have done it sooner but was too scared of ruining my new and expensive purchase.

Another thing I did today was to wrap some hose around the part of the Marlin shifter and zip tied it where it comes out of the housing to see if it will dampen some of the transmission noise coming from the stick since the Marlin stick doesn't have rubber in the aluminum part to dampen the noise like the stock shifter. I will find out tomorrow when I drive to work and see if that made any difference.

Update : it is quieter in the cab now, you can still hear the transmission like it was with the stock shifter. The growly sounds like a bearing was on its way out is gone. When I put the tube on I made sure it was butted up against the aluminum shifter where is screws on to the steel shaft to help quiet the noises that travel up the shaft. The shifter ball is weighted too so that helps too.
