The local Ace is a Minwax distributor. They wouldn't try mixing the stain to the shade I need.

I was assembling a pre-cut cabinet for a neighbor, she wanted it to match the house cabinet. The only way to match the stain of the house cabinet I can think of was to remove the cabinet door. She didn't want the door remove, so it was a crap shoot with the color sample pamphlet. Plus I wasn't sure what the stain would look like on the pre-cut cabinet since it's made from a different wood/

The store (any that I can think of) won't mix it for you. Mixing/Matching requires a lot of trial and error.

Pretty much, mix at your own discretion.

As a beginner of mixing I wasn't going to try it on this person cabinet. She wanted a 100% match that I don't know if I can mixed the stain to where she would be happy.

I didn't mix any stain for the cabinet. I didn't feel comfortable mixing.

How would I go about knowing which color stain to get to match the house cabinets?

Again, trial and error and experience. Since the wood species is different, it's probably not going to match exactly. Start with the closest match and then buy a couple others that are lighter or darker depending on if you need to go lighter or darker. Mix up small batches as tests. It helps to have an extra piece of wood to use so you're not testing on the actual piece of furniture/wood.

Since it's a pre-cut cabinet kit, store bought. There's no extra piece of wood for stains testing. I didn't think of bringing a piece of wood before assembling to Ace for stains testing.

In a way I'm glad I didn't stain the cabinet for her. I don't think she will ever be satisfied. Yes, she that type of a person.

    @Sig45

I picked the Porter Cable pancake compressor we wrote/discuss about on another thread. It works good. I handle most of the smaller jobs I'm using it for. The only issue I had was trying to find the right coupler to fit tools to use with the supplied hoses.

    Understood.

It's a whole different ballgame: Mixing to match someone else's or even your own - VS. - mixing because all the stock shades are not desired.

It was difficult to match stain by the Minwax color sample, pamphlet. I bought the stain closest to the house cabinet going by the pamphlet that I could, but it didn't match. I couldn't pulled the door off the house cabinet. The pre-cut cabinet was all put together, didn't want to take it apart, for stain testing. I was going in circles.

I learned in this case is experience is necessary.

She is in her 80's at that time. She has high standard. The person she had done the color match, she wasn't to thrilled the way it looked.

Sometimes the harder you try, you won't please everyone. Got to ask yourself sometimes, Is it worth it.

She a good person, but way too picky. Wants thing done right away. Certain things has to wait.

i was just kidding because the rest of the tools were Festool

a domino machine is more versatile than a biscuit joiner but they are similar concepts

Forgot to mentioned. The cabinet are in the direct sunlight in the house.

The inside of the cabinets doors are a shade darker. I'm guessing UV damage.
