For the Amsoil fan club, stock up!. As of March 1st, the pricing is going to increase. Other oil manuf are going to increase as well.

there are independent studies that determine which is the best oil for which application.. It doesn't really matter for something like a tacoma.. but you can find the info on film strength and viscosity breakdown etc..

Which is better pepsi or coke would be as valid.

quote of the century!! Long drain intervals along with synthetic oil were developed by Amsoil.

Agreed. I don't use expensive "boutique" oils because (well I am not a racer, lol) and oil changes are a breeze in the TACO and a three a year of regular dino is better IMO than one of Synth . I put about 6-7K a year on my vehicle and do not sit in traffic ever...and that is way overkill as well..I would rather change more often than leave synthetic in for over a year.

and really ALL properly speced oil does the job very well nowadays. It's just a matter or "peace of mind" for those who are OCD about their oil. Sort of like extended Warranties. Its all that very salable fantasy of "peace of mind" Xanax is less expensive and more fun.

I never kept a vehicle more than 90K miles so long term reliability is not a concern.

As is $7 a quart motor oil....

Amsoil KNOWS people who use their products are OCD about their vehicles and many would NEVER sleep if they had to go more than 3-4K between oil changes LOL I would bet not many Amsoil users go more than 6 months r without changing the oil even with only 5K on it.

BAM $80 a year for $30 worth of oil otherwise. Adds up

All you wrote is true and for those that change vehicles frequently, drive to pickup grocieries or kids from school and simply make a runs to shopping mall any oil will do as long its changed at factory intervals.
    BUT then there are others.
Personally I can not afford crappy oil/fluids because my truck tows, battles winters, needs to start at low temps, needs differentials to spin freely even when there is -20F, transfer case needs to shift every time in the second and climb hill or two daily. Truck sees plenty of driving on dirt road that plugs air filter with dust yearly.
Then there are vacations with sand, water crossings up to the top of wheel well. I am sure more then once I got water in my diff. Engine seals were new but with age I am pretty sure they going to start leaking water inside, they just rubber and supposed to be replaced at some intervals. people usually wait for oil leak first but viscosity of water is much lower then engine oil even at 200 F.
Pile up all that and crappy oil/fluid and there could be very expensive repair instead of nice photos of fun. :)

    Yep Indeed, you are right...

..Forgot about how some use the vehicle and that does make all the difference as well as the conditions. Not everyone lives where it doesn't snow of any consequence and there are no hills and no off roading. I use it as a home utility vehicle carry grass bags to the dump and broken yard furniture......Not sport. 7 mile commute. but when i did have my 90 4x4 and lived in Nevada and did go off roading a lot I changed the oil with Dino every 3k along with the air filter after every off road trip.

Cold weather starting is the bane of engines

The IDEA of long drain intervals may have originated with Amsoil, but the engineering to do it right has come from European oil mfr's and OEM's. They've had extended OCI's for years with full warranty coverage and clearly defined specifications with ACEA that allow owners to identify appropriate grade of oil to do it.

Interestingly, Amsoil couldn't compete in this market 'cause they won't certify to independent specs.

The criteria they looked at are ever so limited and completely miss the mark for regular street vehicle applications. If you read the test sequences that comprise ILSAC GF-5, for instance, and you'll get an idea of just how complete they are.

    http://www.swri.org/4org/d08/gastests/ilsacGF5.pdf

Most oils are available now to GF-4 and the brochure also shows the performance parameters of GF-4 oils vs. GF-5.

Does it matter? I'm sure one of your caliber would find it's bouquet lacking anyway.
