I scored my color matched cheap too. And it had roof tracks so I made a diy cargo rack for it so I'm pretty happy.

    Me too.
Can’t hate almost free, considering what it is.

I thought I had a handsome deal at $1200 for color matched when I found mine. Still required an 8hr round trip drive, but that was only 3 years into production of my truck color.

Mine was a 6 hr round trip. Yeah that would have been crazy to find one that cheap for your color and 3rd gen. So to get one for $1200 is still a pretty solid buy in my opinion.

That makes a $150 3rd gen color matched shell at a 45 min drive armed robbery I suppose :anonymous: Only took me 3 years to find!

Yes it does. Possible addition of assault/battery if it isn’t a cookie cutter color.

Truthfully I scored it for free, because we made a trade deal. Realistically, my trade item was worth $150, or at least was what I paid for it. I did offer cash on top and explained it was a very uneven deal, but the guy was insistent that we were both getting what we wanted, so it was worth it to him. I didn't argue.

well now we gotta know....what did you trade him? They are big and take up lots of space. If you can't sell it and don't use it, then pretty much anything traded to you that you can use is gonna be a decent deal. But Can't imagine someone not being able to sell a functioning shell for at min. $300

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I still like your topper the most ;)

a homemade bedrack. He would've had no problems selling it; it was listed at $800 I believe and he informed he had 10+ people message him within the first 30 minutes of listing it. He was just a quality guy and honored me being the first to contact. I had full intentions of buying at his asking price, and offered to send a portion of his asking price via PayPal if he'd be willing to hold it for about 5 hours longer until I could get off from work and head his direction. He wouldn't accept the deposit, and stalked my FB profile in that time between; he then asked what I was going to do with the bed rack, and HE suggested we do an even trade. Of course I was more than okay with it, but I knew it wasn't right, so I accepted plus cash on my end; he insisted that if we were both equally as happy getting the things we really wanted, that it made it a fair trade in his eyes. I later learned that he bought the truck with the topper already on it, so it was really no loss to him; I guess that was the only thing that made me be able to live with robbing the guy, because I took cash to the deal anyways; when I tried to give it to him, he told me then about buying the truck with it already on there, knowing he wouldn't keep it. I just count it as good karma for always being a man of my own word when it comes to being on the selling side of things. I've lost plenty sales on things trying to hold them for the first person that contacted me, while others are bidding higher and higher, and even kept one item about 2 years for one guy that eventually just never came through. The item was worthless at that point, so I never was able to sell it. I see this camper shell deal as positive payback for all of the times I've been screwed as a seller trying to do the right thing.

Edit: let me rephrase; screwed as a seller trying to keep my word. Sometimes the "right thing" is to move along to the next. I've pretty much learned to set hard limits now on timeframes.

I like how that guy operates, and in turn he trust others work the same. (which they should)
Good story. I guess in the end, money aside, if both parties are happy with the deal in the end then that's all that matters.

Agreed; I attribute any of my successes buying and selling on CL/Marketplace to just simply operating on the principle of honesty. Its a dangerous game to play as a seller, because you just simply lose sales, but I just view it as weeding out the opportunists and getting my item to the rightful person. Also just protects you from being the face of a "buyer beware thread" or a public shaming FB post for screwing someone over lol. And it teaches YOU how to weed out those opportunistic purchases from a sketchy guy who can't offer you honesty about his item, when you're on the buying end.
