If/when Starship becomes fully reusable, F9 becomes irrelevant except as a second launcher for 'assured access'. Every F9 launch expends a raptor and upper stage, as well as support costs for fairing recovery. Those costs should more than outweigh the additional fuel needed to launch a starship.

Do you land on the surface ala Armageddon? Who knows.
My guess, the most efficient way would be to do your processing and refining off planet, then you wouldn't need to worry about EPA regulations and you'd be able to reduce weight for transport back to Earth. The amount of calculations to bring loads back to Earth are relevant to the mass of the ship + cargo.

Oh, for sure. We've already shown we can land on comets, asteroids with zero relative motion is a no Brainerd.

And Starship is just the gateway to asteroid mining, orbital refineries and manufacturing.

I think what it really comes down to is that I wanted to continue learning new things outside of engineering and to have more space for creativity in my work. I had become a respected member of the launch community and a trusted F9 vehicle controller (on console in control of the entire rocket, basically the pilot of the rocket while it's in the hangar - moving gas, pressing tanks, running checkouts, screaming VENTING!!! at the top of my lungs right before clicking a valve that would be dumping pressures up to 5500psi). It's an incredibly demanding job that involves being ultimately responsible for the safety of the techs working in and around the rocket. Believe it or not, it does become repetitive especially with the launch cadence as fast as it is now. I'm capable of getting into the weeds and understanding things 10 levels deep but I don't enjoy that as much as I enjoy being a jack of all trades. I'd had enough of detail-intensive aerospace engineering/operations, wasn't too excited about becoming even more specialized, and I wanted to learn more about business. So, I'm now trying to learn by doing as I grow bambeds from the ground up.

Hello science bros. Couple comments/questions here:

    1. I know lots of cool exciting science has happened in my lifetime, but I still think the most incredible thing thats ever happened was making it to the moon and I wish I'd been alive to see it.

    2. Magnetism is wild and it blows my mind. I've heard that the earths pole may be in for a shift in the not so distant future.

    3. I never took physics in school. I think I'd like to learn some physics. Can anyone recommend a good book to start?

    4. Anyone willing to share their black hole theories?

Thats a lot. Feel free to ignore any or all, but I thought I'd throw out some of the stuff rattling around in my brain. :)

Blame @My Name is Rahl . He invited me.

Welcome! Don’t know about good books in particular, but I’m a big fan of the Kurzgesagt YouTube channel, they do a great job of explaining really complex science topics in a very approachable manner, and back it up with sources if you’d like to dive deeper:

I love them too but also keep in mind they have only a few minutes to cover complex topics and they lean heavily on a small selection of experts to build their narrative. They can and have make mistakes. They even made an entire video about it. I've caught a few mistakes, and editioral style opinions over facts, in their videos in my own discipline a couple of times. Still doesn't ruin their videos though.

Well, you'll be alive when we go back this time with Artemis!

I think black holes are real, but they aren't wormholes.

If you want some good general science videos, check out Scott Manley on YouTube.
