How fast can i drive in 4Hi?

I've done 70 mph on a snow covered highway during a snowstorm in 4wd. No issues passing everything in front of me.

 

If road conditions are bad enough to where you need to engage 4WD hopefully your not out to break any speed records...

I drive 4HI in winter conditions up to 140 (80mph??) 4HI loads of times. Even 160 (100mph) no issue.

It does wear the u joints a touch faster and BLEEDS fuel.

As per the manual, there is no maximum speed limit on 4Hi operation. There is also no maximum speed limit stated for 4Lo for that matter. The only governing factors being speed limits and or engine rev limits.

Incorrect, the manual states that speed as the maximum speed at which to engage 4Hi. See page 248 in my post above.

 

Ah ok, guess I read it wrong.

 

This guy imo, is only partially correct that 4wd gives much better braking than 2wd...4wd it allows for better control. Todays 4wd automatics have pretty efficient drivetrains. Your not going to see much difference in the length a vehicle stops whether in 2wd or 4wd on a slippery surface having the same tires on both vehicles. With a 4wd however its a lot easier to control where your going.

 

My record in high is in the70s, my 4low record is 53 tho... lost a race on that one

 

I've put thousands of miles in 4hi cruising at normal highway speeds going up/down the mountain pass. If I was in 2wd I'd would've spun out like all the Seattlelites that spin out on the mountain pass somehow.
Also did a 4low donut in a parking lot the other night, nothing broke

Now taking bets on how many more tropical taco owners don’t read the previous comments and cite the maximum engagement speed.
If you aren’t used to inclement road conditions, drive at a speed you’re comfortable with.
However if you choose to do 40 max (lol) in a 65, please, for the love of god, move to the rightmost lane and turn your hazards on

 

I usually keep it between 45 and 50. Not sure what the speed limit is in 4lo though. I don't get to do that much.
I have never engaged crawl control. My warranty is up soon, I should probably make sure it works.

Well there goes the least informed opinion I've seen in a while.

 

Just go until you smell the gear oil getting hot and then maybe back it off a touch.

 

I don't go much more than 55ish at that speed.

 

Presumes initial read and moderate literacy.
