Higher than typical, floor jacks??????

Didn't quite know where to post this topic yall, but here goes. I like to rotate my tires frequently, every 2or3k miles. Anybody know of a floor jack that can lift our Tacos (mine 2" lift) from midpoint of frame to get both front and rear tires off the ground for quick rotation. Obviously taking care to avoid ever having a body part anywhere near the underside of the truck when jacked. A stack of screwed together 2x12s works ok but cumbersome.

 

I wouldn't recommend lifting the truck from the center. I would get some big jack stands and one in the front and one in the back. If your jack fails with both wheels off your going to have a lot of repairs to do.

 

Do you have some short jack stands?

Lift the rear of the truck underneath the rear diff. Place jackstands (smaller sized) under each ubolt plate at each end of the axle - thus rendering the entire rear end off the ground. Then - take your hydraulic jack and lift the front (behind tire on the frame - see owners manual) one side at a time. Rotate and do the same to the other side.

Don't forget to use a wheel chock/s on each front wheel that is in contact with the pavement.

 

with a 2" lift pretty much any jack should work just fine

 

Yeah, thats how I've been doing it for years. I guess it would probably be ignorant to try this technique on a 5000lb. auto, but sure works great for a 3000 pound car when you only need it up for 10 minutes to swap tires and check brakes. NEVERMIND. Thanks for talking some sense into me before I hurt myself, or worse, my Taco

 

Even stock my 20" jack has a hard time getting wheels off the ground (front). The rear is a piece of cake as mentioned. Now i have a 2" lift and I have to use wood blocks but dont know if there is something better? Some sort of rubber chock or something to get higher lift? I dont have room for a larger jack (single car garage and I am packed for tools.

 

yeah, I've looked at 23" jacks but$$$$$$$$$$. eventually I'll spring for a big stable one

 

if you jack up using the LCAs the suspension has zero down travel...

 

yeah we're talking about the highly unsafe and not recommended procedure of jacking up one side for tire rotation by using the balance point along the frame rail in order to get both tires off ground

 

Suggestions for a safe cheater block? I need about 4-6 inches to make it work on the framerail

 

I use a stack of 2x12s screwed together. 3 of em about 3 ft. in length. its pretty stable, but wouldnt' call it safe by any means.

 

Yeah just getting the jack under the LCA is a PITA.

 

Craftsman makes one for trucks and suvs. the stroke is quicker and you get more lift faster.

 

Craftsman sells one for trucks and SUVs. Its stroke is quicker and i have never had to add blocks.

 

Are you lifted by any chance Scott?
