You get more for the money with the offroad. The Sport had a sunglass holder and a hood scoop. The offroad has crawl control, real locker and a better suspension.

I wouldn't buy a truck right now unless I was absolutely forced to. Even with a crazy trade-in, the sticker of the next one will still favor the dealer. Those bastards are banking right now.

I submit this: how many dealerships in your area are remodeling right now? Seems like I've noticed construction going on at a good 30% of the places I drive by. It's because it's such a seller's market that you can move cars by showing up and breathing. There were lines waiting to just see a sales guy the last time I walked into a dealership.

So nah. Keep the truck you have.

When I went looking for a Tacoma, I knew I wanted a new 2021, I didn't want certain colors and it had to be a 4x4 DCSB. Once I isolated those factors, it was time to pick a trim:

Trd sport: love the scoop, didn't want premium leather seats or moon roof (personal preference). Could not find a sport anywhere in my area that wasn't marked up with the premium package or was in DCSB

Trd offroad: I don't care about the rear locker (personal preference), I'll never intentionally hit a trail and risk damaging something on a car that I'm making payments on. I didn't like the black fender flares but those can be swapped later I guess. And again I didn't want premium leather seats or moon roof. In the end, I couldn't find any without premium package or in DCSB

SR5: Was not looking at these at all until I realized It had potential as a blank slate to mod the way I wanted without overpaying for the stuff I didn't want. Ultimately went with the SR5

I got Sport model because stiffer ride quality. My truck spends majority of its life on highway, thus I prefer the on-road characteristics.

I didn't like off-road model due to nose dive effect during braking action and suspension felt too soft to my liking.

I have zero plans on suspension change or putting myself in situations where lockers/crawl control is needed. 4x4 is good enough.

Run the pro/cons yourself OP. See what fits your needs.

I got the Sport for the improved airflow due to the scoop and air dam. I must be saving something in gas mileage. Every penny counts you know …

    Either/Or Fallacy.

Option 3: Everyman SR5 because I didn't need that other cosplay stuff to do all the things.

I picked the TRD Off-road because I wanted the locker for my fishing and biking trips. Plus Im not a fan of hood scoops. I don't do a lot of trail except to get to a spot and I've already used the locker on a spring fishing trip. If I didn't need it I would have gone with and SR5 4x4.

TRD Sport. I like a truck with a full size box and a manual. Hood scoop is a bonus!

i love the sunroof on my sport, and the 4 door shortbed with manual is only available in canada with the sport. also the colour, and colour matched flares. generally i think the finish is nicer on the sport. and i can always get aftermarket locker (which i think would be better on the front anyways + the LSD on rear included on all)

    I've owned both.

My $.02 is that the sport was *probably* a better highway vehicle. I hated the skewp. Without power adjustable seats for height, every time it rained, that useless piece of plastic dumped globs of water directly into my vision, and the skewp is just a nonsense piece of flair that makes it harder to see over the hood offroading (and tacomas have obnoxiously long hoods as it is)

Offroad, the sport is stiffer riding, which isn't a huge deal for the weekend warrior types braving a forest road to a campsite with concrete picnic tables. I came into tacomas from a background of heavily modified jeeps, and the sport kinda rode like an ugly solid front axle TJ on actual trails.

All that being said, the OR I have now isn't a prize pig either. I'd get rid of all that traction control nonsense to get back the sunglass holder I had in my sport. Throw in a front locker and and you can keep your multi terrain select which is essentially useless on a stock truck with 31" tires.

If I was gonna do it all over again, I'd probably get a Rubicon gladiator, but I'm pretty fond of the long bed tacoma OR I have now. It fills my daily driver needs and is moderately capable (and comfortable) offroad, and my truck is one of the rare ones that actually goes offroad about as much as it drives on pavement.

In short: On-road only, Sport is probably the better choice. If you do any offroad at all, the OR is far and away the better option from the factory.
