Pics of my home improvement addition. Took all my tractor had to lift it on the cart!! Must be 600 lbs even though its pretty small.

Replaced my cheap ass 15 y/o queen bed frame with a nice new vinyl (you'd swear it's leather) Crate & Barrel king frame. Giant drawers were a must, as was quality & a more modern look. We ordered it in January & as a thank you for not bitching about the delay they comp'd the $299 white glove delivery, including haul away of the old mattress & box spring. I was all set to pick up the 3 boxes at their warehouse but will never say no to someone else hauling boxes up to my 3rd floor bedrooms....for free. Got a "Tuft & Needle" Mint mattress but as I type this I'm not happy with it. I need a firm slab of concrete for my busted back....we've got 99 more nights to decide.

Oh, and an 18v Milwaukee Fuel drill sure as hell beats the Allen keys they expect me to use!

General question, What is the difference between iron and aluminum railings?

Is there any benefits on one railing over the other?

Beside iron is stronger and aluminum doesn't rust.

    Aluminum does corrode.

Powder coated aluminum looks good for a decent while. Ditto iron.

Never had old school wet painted iron - maybe a beech to maintain depending on location.

I know this first hand. My aluminum railing are corroding on the bottom. Probably from the salt/ice melt.

If weathered or looks old, worn, Can these railings be repainted or does it have to be powder coated?

My Uncle has bad knees. I want railing that can support weight.

How the railing are installed will be my concern.

I've got back some back issues as well. When I was looking for a mattress 7 years ago I stumbled on this site. Use it and profit.

You guys are too damn smart. At age 68, soon to be 69...I probably couldn't get out of the tub once I got in there on my back! They'd find me when the smell got too bad..."How come he doesn't write anymore?"

    Started the garage electrical today!

First step was to cut an access hole to squeeze my fatass up there. We have an attic access in the house, but it's way at the other end of the house and I don't feel like crawling through there a million times running wire.

Started putting the metal boxes where I wanted them on the wall. This is where my work bench will be, so I want plenty of power (yes, I still need to put up a 2x4 to the left of the aluminum post...).

Also decided to see how difficult it was to get power from the basement. Apparently drilling strait in directly at the bottom is about halfway through the 2x10 rim joist. Perfect! This switch box will be for the ceiling lights and a place to run power to the garage door opener receptacle and other side door light. All lighting (and opener) is on its own 15 amp circuit.

Before you ask, yes that's a water line fitting on the PVC conduit. Apparently there was a shortage of conduit male adapters at the particular Lowe's I went to.

Feeding the garage will be two 20 amp circuits for the outlets and then the one 15 for lighting. Should suit my needs.

Never thought of stainless steel. Polished stainless steel would look nice but being outside it would look back normal or oxidized shortly after.

    Thanks, I'll look into it.

Thanks to everyone that replied to my questions!

If it's passivated, or clear coated it will look the same all the time.
