i replaced the O2 senor towards the front, but can't get too the rear one. can someone tell me what size and type i need too remove it. i used a ratcheting box end wrench too remove the front one. a pic would be nice if you can post it! i did the front one in 20 mins, the back one gave me a neck ache. what a cluster f--- that is!

I would definitely get something to get down in those threads to loosen it up before you remove it.. I removed mine when i put in my headers and ripped the threading out of it it was so locked in there.. fortunately they went back in

Use the tool HondaGM linked to, and use Kroil as a lubricant to get the sensor out. If you're able, spray some penetrating lubricant on the threads a few times before you take on the job. I'm doing the same thing on my suspension bolts before my shocks arrive.

When it comes time to put the wrench to the sensor, if it doesn't turn at first, try going backwards a bit before getting a breaker bar.

Fuck that. If your exhaust is rusty do yourself a favor and buy a cat back and just chop that thing out. I spent three whole days trying to save my o2 sensor only to realize that nothing would work.

the exhaust is still in great shape. not sure if the cat is plugged or not. it looks good for having 265k on it. i'm replacing the sensor past the cat. shitroc, did you replace the shield or just go without it?

this is the correct tool, though i've also had success in the past with a stubby and a hammer.

no i didnt bother replacing the heat shield, i left a little bit of slack in the wires enough so any movement in the exhaust wouldnt tug on them but i made sure that the wires would also never touch on the exhaust and melt.

What size nuts and thread pitch are used on the rear O2 sensor studs?
The nuts will be destroyed when I take them off, cut them off, otherwise remove them today.
They are so rusted away that they appear to have been 12mm (outside diameter) at one time. Is the 1.25mm pitch the norm?
I want to get the replacements on the way home and not make multiple trips to the store.
    Thanks for any input.

bowyer, yes the pitch is 1.25 M8 and i think the nuts were 13mm. i thought mine were rounded off or rusted out badly. but they must have vibrated off. i used the 1.25 too rethread mine. the studs looked new after that. sure is nice not too see the check engine light on. i brought some grade 8 nuts and lock washer on mine. g/l

    tlh178 -
    thanks, you confirmed my suspicions.
however, the nuts were 'rust welded' on and I am still trying to get them removed!
next tool up will be the angle grinder or the dremel!

have you been spraying them repeatedly with some penetrating fluid, i sprayed mine over and over again for 2 days prior to actually removing them and even then had to lock on to them with vice grips.
