Fender flares?

I blew almost all the tabs off my original rear flares when removing to cut the bedside for HC rear bumper, and I'm not gonna buy a brand new OEM set just so I can chop them up.

Can anyone recommend aftermarket pocket flares that fit at least decently, which have bolt holes that actually line up with the factory holes in the bedside? My intention is to either use Chevy license plate nutserts and stainless panheads, or even just through-bolt with bolts/washers/nylocks.

I've seen a couple brands that appear to fit decently to the body lines, but the bolt holes are completely cosmetic and don't appear to actually line up with the factory clip holes.

I got a set off aftermarket no name ones I cut along with my fenders for clearance and used sidewalk bolts fender washers and nylocks to secure, along with a LOT of FIPG-103.

I did have to drill one hole but otherwise everything lined up with the rectangular existing holes IIRC.

The plastic is very flexible which is a good thing for the most part but for the rears I had to make a little bracket to help them hold the shape after I cut them and my bed sides.

I believe these are they, "Spec D" only ones I see that have the pre molded in "mud flaps".

1/4 20 sidewalk bolts if you're unfamiliar.

 

I went with the cheap ones, and even got them cheaper because I got them off craigslist, (guy had bought them for a DCSB and didn't realize the ones he ordered were for a RC/AC/LB) I couldn't justify taking a body saw to $600 Bushwackers or beating those up on a trail.

Been on for 4+ years now 100% happy would do again though there is a bit of fuss doing it my way.

 

Where were you loading the FIPG, gaps between the fender and flare? Is it something that thicker EPDM trim might address?

 

Ah, no it came with rubber strips that had a little bit of adhesive 3M in it to fill the gaps and prevent the plastic from rubbing directly on the body, I used the fibbage to prevent the fender washers from squeaking and or rubbing the paint off the inside so I basically just bathed the holes and the washers in it, which also helped it stay in place during assembly.

 

If you want close ups or specific angles or whatever I can take some pictures for you.

I will say the outside radius isn't quite the same as the original flares most noticably the top rear corners are more rounded where tbe factory are more square you can kinda see the ghost of the original flare profile where their rubber stripping wore on the clear coat.

It should buff out for the most part if it bothers you but I chose to just live with it and I really haven't noticed it other than when I was point blank doing install.

Either way looks way better than bare holey fenders after my tires... Self clearanced.

 

I'll probably just go for it. My pig needs paint eventually and it spends most of its life pretty dirty on the outside, so a couple ghost marks is NBD. I just want SOMETHING on there and if it can go on with the factory clip holes, it makes my life a lot easier.

I actually don't NEED flares at this point, since with pizza cutters the fenders themselves actually meet state requirements for tire coverage, but it will look goofy up front with the ARB since the lines are clearly meant to meet with flares.

 

What tires/size you running?

Yeah it mates up with my, (non standard), ARB pretty nicely.

They do give a little more tire clearance and the little bit of mud flap helps keep some off the truck.

 

235/85/16 Discoverer AT/LTs. If that size is good enough for the Camel Trophy Truck they're good enough for me, LOL. I love them. Well behaved on the road, terrific on dirt at high speed, decent in mud as long as it's not deep to the axles. Aired down a bit they paw up rubble and scree like nobody's business. I've got about 9-10k miles on them on class IVs in NE Vermont, highway all the way out to AZ, and some sick bombing runs on dirt tracks and volcanic fields while I was out there. Took me through some gnarly winter squalls in the mountains on the way out, too.

 

Not bad. Little work taking off mold lines, prime, paint.



I bought 3/4" stainless screws with finish washers and locknuts. Should have gone with 1", there are 3 holes in the front fenders where 3/4 wasn't QUITE long enough, and I do need to drill one each in the fronts.

Photos kinda suck, I'll get better ones when they're actually done.

 

Fitment is better than expected. Pretty dang good actually.

The last couple weeks of winter were absolutely killing me. Now that it's suddenly nice out, I'm taking out the frustration on anything productive outside I can get my hands on.

With those bumpers and the topper on you should consider getting Hammer Hangers, my truck was a wondering swaying rolling boat but it turned into a sports car after the Archive Garage Hammer Hangers and Cross Tube.

 

That's next on the list, after I get the shell insulated, wired, and re-windowed. Hopefully this fall, to coincide with another round of frame work.
